OK, as some probably know I've been quitting, smoking one fag , quitting, smoking a packet, then smoking for a week, stopping for one day, starting smoking again, quitting for good, smoking just with alcohol, quitting, smoking one with stress etc. etc. for over a year.I have achieved some fairly remarkable (for me) miniature periods of sobriety in the midst of this but it has never been lasting.

I finally got back my quit head, and I know i'll never have another. I know the addiction inside out, I know there's no arguing or tricking it, or just oneing it, I know all the tricks it plays.

OK, I'm well and truly done with it now.

Currently seven days (if not for pack of ten on a night out- never enough a packet of ten, especially with booze- would've been a month...:()

I got it now, look forward to seeing you all in the proper year(no cheating) folder

Understand you. I think a lot of us have been through that cycle. But something just clicks in your head (the penny drops) and u finally accept that u are going to stop. No excuses or dramas.

aye, you know the addiction now Jude and you've had loads of setbacks but you are still here, still determined and still intent on beating this thing. And I honestly believe you CAN do this, most lesser folk would have been long gone. Told them self the old "well maybe I'm just a smoker" lie, but your still here and still want it and that desire will be what gets you through the rough times :)

Its a good time to give up too (too damn cold outside!)

you sound strong this time - we are all with you all the way :D

Jude,

I think you will definitely do well this quit while you maintain this level of focus on it. You know whats gone before, you've seen the pitfalls, yet you still keep having a go at it.. you really want this to work, and well, .. so do we!!

So the very best of luck to you, and yeah, you definitely know where to find us lot if you get a moment or two where you need a bit of a chat.

All the best.

Jase.

Hi Jude, that's some familiar stuff you posted! But, I totally get you. I think there just comes a point when you cannot hide anymore- you know too much, the addiction is transparent, and you just have to get on with it. No more just one cos it's a party, cos it's Christmas, cos it's sunny, cos it's blah blah blah- on and on it goes. Until there comes a point when we just say, you know what, no! Enough already.

Well done for getting to that point, stay strong, stay in touch, if temptation strikes then post! I have found this site a godsend, and just knowing so many people are out there doing the same thing is such a help.

All the best! :D

Jude that sentence sums up every quit I every did before this one. In fact, over a period of 30 years I think I never went more than 3 days "sober". I am now on day 27.

If I can do it you can do it. Go on...build on that 7 days cos you've already done the worst bit.:)

Thanks all u lovely guys for understanding words!

I'm totally done with the whole shenanigans, something has clicked, despite all previous efforts.

I just know I'm done now, I can't explain, something is there that wasn't there before.

I had a bit of a revelation ....man

I can even drink now , without fags..... I'm doin good....

Hi Jude :D

I know what you mean about that something clicking but like you couldn't explain it

Also like you I tried many times over the years without success but this times that something clicked and I knew very early on that this was the quit that would last for me just don't ask how I knew that but I did

I'm so pleased that it's going well for you and you sound so much happier and so much more positive this time keep it going

Love
