DAY 6 of champix

Today is day 6 of my Champix and now 2.47 in the afternoon(Australia)

yesterday I had 4 cigarettes but put two out after half.

Today since waking at 9 I have had half of a cigarette.

I know I can do it and it's still early (My quit date is 1/12/09) it's okay to still get reasonably bad craving so far isn't it?

I had smoked solid for 17 years....

I'm just a little bit scared and also really really want to quit....I will amit to myself however I would find it so damn hard without Champix..Regardless, I must stop on my quit date and I will....I just don't know if I'm being too strict in my first week of Champix or what?

All the best,

Al.

Heh! Cheers, mate!

The patches worked for me about ten years ago but I had to top drinking aswell...I lasted three months then had a beer then had a smoke.

They can be great with a lttle will power though...Good luck, Brother!

Hey Al,

welcome to this forum! I think the time before the actual quit is way the most stressful time.... all the doubting, worrying, thinking is it possible to live happily without fags..... we all went through it so don't worry too much about it, it's all part of the process.

Educate yourself about your quit, your addiction, why you smoke..... I can actually just tell you...... you've smoked to feed your addiction, probably on the hour every hour daily.... that's it! All the other stuff you made it mean (it helps you relax, it's nice, it's cool, it helps you think better) is all bull. That thinking has had only one purpose and that is to justify your smoking. You've realized something along those lines..... otherwise you would not attempt to quit now.

The first few days/weeks may prove to be a bit challenging (maybe not!) but I can tell you, you will not regret this! Life without addiction is ever so much better and this comes from a person who thought she LOVED smoking more than anything.

Don't worry about your quit date..... take a deep breath, remind yourself why you want to do this, and if you draw a blank, read, read, read.

Hi Al :D

Well done on day 6 taking champix with a quit date set for Dec 1st

I also used champix to help me

My advice is to live your life as normal [don't force the cutting down] just let the champix do it's job while you get on with your life OK

It takes a little while to kick in and when it does believe me you'll know it has you'll cut the amount you want to smoke dramatically and then you just won't want to smoke at all any more maybe even before the 1st Dec and that is the time to stop even if it's a day or so before the set date

I forced myself to smoke the last couple of days till my set date and it made me feel really ill I wish I had stopped that couple of days earlier

So yes I think you are being to strict with yourself just now it will happen naturally that's the thing about champix it works without you having to push it so much just give it time to do it's thing OK after all you still have a full week till the 1st and your stop day

Relax and go with the flow

Love

:D:D:D

Thankyou both so much, that made me really happy.

I have had one and a half cigs today, It's now 8pm in Oz.

yes, it was against cravings, but damn the floor boards are clean..:D

I honestly can feel the effects of Champix getting stronger as I would have really struggled without them. In other words, I'd still be smoking a lot..

Cheers again!

Not used Champix, but have read lots of folks posts who have and it seems to be pretty good stuff. I think though that you really need to want to stop- nothing will do it for ya! I found reading everything I can about the addiction, the psychology, the trap, has been a real help. Allen Carr, Joel Spitzer (sp?), they don't sugar coat things, they tell you straight- it's a drug addiction and it can be beaten. And you can do it! ;)

Hi Aussmoker. I guess you're asleep now, but here's a little message for you to wake up to...

Just relax and let the Champix do its stuff. Mix in a bit of willpower and the support of this forum - you will be fine. The scary bit is now - before the quit date. I was terrified that I wouldn't be able to do it. But I did. And so can you.:)

hi Aussmoker

Champix is a great help, but you still need will power to stop yourself putting a cigarette in your mouth and lighting it.

Just relax, let Champix do it's stuff, don't be too anxious about set dates, it will work in its own time and you'll just not want to smoke. I found that with Champix I didn't have any massive cravings, but I still had the 'habit' to beat on my own. It's amazing how often you think about having a cigarette because it's part of a set routine rather than you actually wanting/needing/craving one.

Read as much as you can. Do a search on here for Champix.

Good luck

Sue

A big welcome to our online family and well done.

I liked this piece from Bella it is short, to the point and so very true.

Thanks heaps guys!

For the welcome and the encouragement.

Won't say I don't need it!;)

I smoked four cigarettes yesterday(Tuesday) It's now 12:49am Wednesday morning.

I start the dark blue tablets today and have 7 days til my quit day!

Still nervous and anxious. I went out yesterday with no cigarettes, for lunch and thought about them a lot, came home a couple of hours later and had half of one!

Hey Al,

It looks like a lot of good advice has already been given to you. Can't really add too much but just wanted to post and provide a little more support to you and your impending new smoke free life. It'll come good for you....but it'll need you to ensure that ;)
