Off Zyban and on 'my own' now...

Well, here I am again, day 26 since I started taking Zyban and day 18 since I had my last ciggie.

I have done this with Zyban. Had so many side effects (including fainting in the middle of town about 2 weeks ago), so went to GP and decided to take just one tablet a day and it has been better.

Now I am in bed, and been poorly for about a week, first I thought it was the flu, as suddlenly it hits me, chills (the worst), body aches, muscle pain, headaches, tired all day, lost of appetitte, and fever every day (higher 38.6). Worst is that I wake up in the middle of the night and my pillow and duvet are totally soaked, sweating profusely. As it has been almost a week (tomorrow) I thought I'd call NHS Direct and after a while and lots of questions they transferred my call to NHS Swine Flu but they have done all sorts of tests (over the phone!!!) and according to them it is not flu, or at least not Swine Flu.

So I haven't got a clue what my problem is, I called my GP and it is close on Wed pm (just my luck).

Reading the little paper inside Zyban it says that I might have chills, fever, body aches, mucles pains, etc etc etc, so now I am worried it might be all due to Zyban.

Am I being paranoid?? I think I might stop taking Zyban alll together since I have no cravings whatsoever since I stopped smoking and my partner is sitting next to me smoking like a chimney and never thought of smoking myself. I am done with all those side effects.

Do you think I am doing the right thing on blaiming Zyban??

Kiss Kiss for everyone!

Hi Lolito :D

I'm not a Dr or in any qualified to give medical advice but as it's not flu this could be due to Zyban having said that I never used it but I did use champix which works in the same sort of way

I think if it was me I would stop taking them until you can see your Dr and that should be ASAP for your own peace of mind it could be the tablets causing this could you get an appointment for tomorrow I really don't think it would hurt to stop them at least for the rest of today and see what happens but do please see your Dr [I seem to remember you saying you fainted one day when out and had to be taken home by someone]

I don't want to scare you but if this gets worse go to A&E and get it checked out taking with you the Zyban and any other medicine you have if you're taking anything else even if just for your peace of mind

Love

Hi, I really think you should get yourself checked out by a doctor as soon as possible if this has been going on for a week. I've read that some people do have bad reactions to Zyban, but don't know from personal experience. Most docs seem to prescribe Champix now - if the ratio on here is anything to go by.

Do you have one of those walk-in emergency health centres in your area? They fall sort of between a doctors and an A&E.

The main thing here is of course your health. There is noway they can say for sure over the phone if you have flu or not, so you could have the flu, or of course it could be the tablets.

I agree with Marg, it will not do any harm not have a tablet for 24 hours, and if you can not get to see your GP tomorrow, go to A&E if you are still worried.

sorry to hear that you are suffering all this, but hopefully you will start to feel better soon and you are a non smoker, so well done for that.

Thank you guys! Well, I will go to see my GP tomorrow morning as it is open surgery and see what he says. My surgery has 3 GPs and one of them gave me the Zyban with no hesitation, when I went back (due to the fainting) I saw another GP who asked 'who gave you Zyban!!!' ... and tomorrow I will see the other one.. lol!

I took the one for today this morning, but tomorrow I am not going to take it until I come back from my GP and depending on what he says, I will keep you posted!!

Thanks for your concerns! I don't mind having one or two side effects but I can easily number at least 20 side effects and they are all really bad ones!

Hello again! Back from GP. All ok. It is a 'proper full blown seasonal flu'... it has been hell for a week and last night i had 39.3 fever and this morning 39.0 so GP said to put up with it and gave me some medication.

Zyban has nothing to do with it, just stop it if I want to, so I thought since it is going well I might as well keep on taking it. It will be 4 weeks tomorrow!!

Hi, I can't really say 'Oh that's good news' when you've just been told you've got flu. That's terrible but at least you now know why you've been feeling like you have. Poor you. But well done on getting it sorted and at least you now know that it doesn't seem to be the Zyban or swine flu! You can concentrate on getting better.

Hi Lolito :)

I'm glad you dot it sorted and although you ave the flu at least you know it's not the Zyban making you feel so ill and that's good news at least

Well done 4 weeks tomorrow smoke free and also of course you're being smoke free means you won't make it worse by smoking and that has to be good as well

I hope you feel better very soon

Thanks everybody! I am back again.. yesterday was without a doubt the sickest day of my entire life with very high fever most of the day. Suddenly at around 10pm I started to feel much better and as by miracle, the flu has now left my body. Today (Saturday 14) feel much better although those horrible 9 days of flu have left me totally weak and can't walk straight or do anything for too long but hey! I am sure I will recover soon enough.

In the end I never stopped taking Zyban, the GP said it was up to me if I wanted to stop until the flu was over, but I am so pleased with the results that I am continuing the JUST one tablet a day (two made me too sick). To be honest I am not looking forward to the side effects of Zyban again, the flu took over those but I much prefer those than the bleeding flu!! I believe the normal course of Zyban as with Champix is from 7 to 9 weeks, am I right? So I have done 4 full weeks (yesterday) so I have 5 more weeks to go! yo-hoooooooooooooo!!!

My piggy bank has now 100 pounds extra!! £100 !!

By the way, I am Spanish (from Pamplona) by I live in Yorkshire (UK).

Kisses and hugs to everybodyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!

Hi Lolito :)

I'm pleased to hear you're feeling better today and the worst of the flu seems to be over but it is natural to be weak and wobbly after a bout of the flu

G;ad also to hear your piggy bank is £100 pounds richer
