Does it ever get better?

I am on day 3 of quitting and was wondering if the cravings ever do leave you? In my experience some people say the do and some say they don't. I also heard that they lessen in time and only become occassional. I thought that if I am suffering as much as now in 3 months time, is it really worth it? I feel a little spaced out a lot of the time, and the hankerings for the fags wont leave me. I've been looking at grisly vids on you tube of people with mouth and lung cancer and that has been helping me to keep on the straight and narrow. Although, in theory I am against that king of sanctimonious scaremongering.

Yes it does get better, every quit is different though and nobody can tell how you are going to feel in 24hours or 6 months from now.

For me, I don't have cravings so much as passing thoughts. I know I am not going to have a fag, but they were a big part of my life for a very long time, so it takes a while to get used to not having one.

Stay strong, remember why you are doing this, and hold on to the fact that you will never have to do the first 3 days again.

Thanks,

I am on champix though. Does the first 72 hours rule apply to champix - as in does it get better?

Hello sweetheart, it does get better but I will not lie to you it's a bloody rough road. I'm on day 28 and I have not honestly had 28 bad days but I've had a few.

Are you on Champix, cold turkey or patches etc??

Sorry our posts crossed, day 2-10 were the worst but like I said above not constant. Go to day 1 and read the Champix blogs, honestly these will help you.

You are doing really well, hang it there. I promise it will get better.

Hey Gambit,

it is really normal to feel and think the way you do...... the spaced out feeling/coughing.... all typical symptoms in the beginning. It's hard to imagine early on in a quit that you will come out of this happy and all I can tell you is it takes time to reprogram your thinking. The first month for most can be quite tough. I'm sure you've read up on ways to reduce the 'suffering'.... reading helps, learning about your addiction, understanding why you feel this way, etc. The most important thing is to keep moving forward, and take it day by day. Don't worry about 3 months from now..... you'll be way strong in your quit by then.

I understand your thinking and I know the suffering (we all do).... you just so badly want it all to go away. It WILL go away..... in time it will fade into the past and you'll have gained your life back. It's great to not be controlled by fags. Keep posting, ask for support, and give yourself the time to heal. Hang in there, okay ;)

Hi Gambit :)

The cravings do go in time Promise but you have to be patient and give your body time to heal itself and also remember you're addicted to a very strong drug just as we all are/were just hang in there

It will get far easier for you and eventually all you'll get are little fleeting thoughts now and then very easy to cope with and gone almost before they're there

Feeling spaced out is normal this early in a quit Promise it soon passes thinking about fags is also normal it to will pass

Read the many links in our signatures and the post's on here it does help

Love
