You should not take the tablets on an empty stomach. Try having a slice of toast, leave it for 10 minutes than have the tablet. I only have a protein shake for my breakfast and some nuts and beside from the first day, never feel sick on them.

Good luck

Hi

Sorry you've had that nausea. For the first week, I felt sick after taking the morning Champix. Then on Day 8 (I think, the first of the big ones), I took it without food and threw up almost immediately, so I know what you mean.

I haven't eaten breakfast for years, so it was something strange to force myself to eat in the morning. If you've lost your appetite do try to eat something before you take the tablet, even if it's just a piece of fruit or slice of toast, and then take it with a glass of water.

It does seem to get better as time passes. I'm on Week 4 of Champix now and the nauseous feeling has gone. Perservere, it's worth it in the end.

I know what you mean. I am usually a 'happy-go-lucky' person who never lets anything get me down, but this week I've been in a really glum period. Started on Monday evening when I had a friend round for a catch-up chat and a few drinks. I've got a neighbour who has been a right moan all summer, she complains about everything. Well, she picked the wrong day to have a go at the noise our conversation was making! So, for the first time, I had a go back. Then the following day, felt terrible about it. Don't know why I felt guilty as we didn't do anything wrong. (We're a couple of middle-aged women having a chat in the early evening - not bopping around to ZZ Top at 2am).

Anyway, since I started Champix I've been really aware to watch out for any mood changes - and this was out-of-character for me - and the guilt trip I'm feeling afterwards certainly wasn't worth it. I also started to feel 'panicky' about things, which again is not in character.

I've cut back on Champix to half the dose (just one in the morning). I feel not having a cigarette is the least of my problems - I've no desire to smoke at all. My moods might have nothing to do with Champix, but I think they have given me the head start I need, so I need to try to go it alone for a while and see if my mood improves.

I'm not angry - just a bit 'down' and feel like I want to hide under a duvet! Hope this helps you know you're not alone in feeling this way.

hi Sue... sorry I had to get off the site for a while... you also seem quite up and down. I have to confess I am prone to mood swings, but today was more just feeling really low and alone.

I have pick the worst time to give up smoking as professionally my company's future is bleak and I recently broke up with my boyfriend, so I have no idea what makes me feel low!

I'm confident I'll manage to be ok but I might have to also reduce the dose as it is just too strong, I don't think about smoking at all and don't miss it, which feels great, but I also can't be bothered with food which in return makes it horrendous to take the tablets without being sick!

I go to my meetings every Monday so I'll definitely mention how I've felt this week, I started Champix almost 2 weeks ago, stopped smoking 4 days ago and have felt really sick for the past 2 days.

I hope you feel better and thank you for sharing your experience with me :)

Hi Corinne

I felt sick after taking Champix in the morning and like you i can't eat first thing, i started eating half a slice of toast and then taking my tablet, the sicky feeling stopped.:)

i now enjoy my slice of toast in the morning and not feeling sick.

Eating half a slice of toast is a lot easier than giving up smoking.

Hope you feel better tomorrow Corinne.

You can do it gal.:)

hey Jimmy,

Thank you.. I will try tomorrow morning... I've just forced myself to have a bit to eat tonight before my evening tablet and I feel better although absolutely shattered!

But... as everybody will say, it is worth it, 4 days without a cig and not even a thought for it :D

Hi frenchy

I'm using Champix and had a really bad time at the start. Like you I completely lost my appetite and felt very sick. Last Saturday I was ready to give in as I spent most of the day on the sofa feels awful.

What has helped me is to take the tablet in the middle of eating with a large full glass of water. In the morning, like many of us I dont do breakfast and tried toast & cereal but have found a boiled egg works. Eat half, full glass of water and then eat the rest. In the evening do the same with my evening meal.

It has really worked for me and other than last night when I did not have much to eat, the sickness and the hollow feeling inside has gone. It has been really worth perservering.

There are loads of other tips on here, but if you do feel bad there is usualy someone around to help.

Good luck and I hope you feel much better soon.

thank you Lorna... it's strange really because putting weight on was a worry when I decided to stop smoking and now I find myself worrying because I've gone off food as much as I've gone off the cigs!!

I'll definitely try a healthy breakfast tomorrow ... fingers crossed ;)

Why don't you get a few boxes of them lovely alpen cereal bars to go with toast or something in the morning? They taste really nice too.

The second week of champix when I was still smoking was a complete nausea-fest. Things got a lot less sicky-feeling as soon as I stopped smoking and now after 12 smoking-free days I have no nausea at all, even when I haven't eaten. I think your body just adjusts and the side effects subside as with medication generally.

Am pleased that I probably lost some weight during the nausea-fest and last week, though. Because this week I have been ravenous

Hi frenchy, try not too worry about putting on weight for the next couple of weeks. A few extra pounds can easily be taken off later but we all know that stopping smoking is the best thing we can possibly do.

Once you get into the second week on Chapix it really does take away the desire to smokeand to back up a previous post it was also when I stopped the fags that the sickness got better.

Have a good weekend...xx
