Morning all

I was wondering how everyone copes with drinking and not smoking. I have a party tomorrow night and I don't know if I should drink to take the edge off it or not to drink. I will be with non smokers and obviously the venue will be no smoking. I know I will not smoke, but I don't want to crave one all night and be moody.

How does everyone cope in pubs especially in the early days of quitting?

Cheers

Christine

Just get so drunk that you can't remember your own name let alone the ability to hold and smoke a cigarette :D

Not the way I was going, but I will bear it in mind.

Hi Christine, I was worried about the first time having a non-smoking drink, but actually it was fine. No problems at all and I quite enjoyed the freedom of not having to plan around where and when to sneak outside to have the next cigarette.

You'll be fine. My only word of warning, that I found that alcohol had a quicker (and worse) effect on me on Champix. I felt really rough afterwards and pretty 'down'. Now it might just be that I drank more because I wasn't popping out for a cigarette all the time.

Good luck - let us know how you get one

Sue

Hiya Christine. Just see how you feel on the night. If your head is in the right place have a drink and see how it goes, don't put yourself in a situation you can't handle. just enjoy yourself and don't smoke. David

Set a limit, just don't get blitzed, just have enough drinks so you can have a giggle, but not so many you do silly things. I know friends have this 'who's round is it?' thing that goes on half the time, but there is no shame in asking for something non-alcoholic even if you have had a few alch drinks already.

Everyones limits are different, and i'm sure u know what you normally drink on a normal night out, so just perhaps don't have quite anywhere near that much

All things in moderation .. you don't want to risk your quit so limit yourself.

hey christine,

i think it depends on how confident you are that you will stick to not smoking.

I lost numerous quits to getting to hammered and caving in so decided to take it pretty easy on the booze when first starting quitting. I then went a bit crazy on the booze as i think i was trying to make up from the kick of smoking.

Just be honest with yourself, and you will be fine. If you know that there is a chance you wont be alright drinking then maybe its worth it not to till you are in a stronger frame of mind. One night isnt really much of a sarifice in comparison to what you can achieve if you quit.

hope you have a good night. If you dont get pissed you can always have fun laughing at everyone else!

Hi Christine :D

Enjoy your night out but my advice would be limit the amount of alcohol you drink decide before you go how much you'll drink and stick to it when you've had that amount switch to soft drinks

Just have a couple of drinks, stay under control dont drink too much where you'll probably end up drunk and not knowing what you are doing.

Just been out last night, lots to drink and to be honest I did not feel it at all. When we left the resturant and were walking to the train station one of the girls lit up. I turned round and saw the cig in her hand and my immediate reaction was ooooo I want one of those, but turned away kept walking and was fine....

Failing that...stay on the dance floor...cant smoke, cant drink too much and helps with the lard....win win win..;)

Oh last night was one of your social times when you'll have a glass of wine:eek:

I read that earlier today and fell on the floor in shock :p

Isn't it nice when those passing thoughts of 'Oh that smoke looks nice, want one of those' are quickly replaced with a dismissive smile or almost instantly forgotten.

I really could not have imagined that 2 months ago
