Hi everyone my name is Jane and Ive just been searching around these forums to see how people are getting on with giving up smoking

I managed to quit 5 years ago when I became pregnant with my first daughter (I have 2 daughters now). I smoked since I was 16 & tried everything I could to give up but with no success.

When I became pregnant I new I had to give up for the sake of my child

My husband took me to a hypnotist which only took 3 sessions but was certainly not cheap (over £1000).

I have the greatest respect for anyone who can quit on there own. And look forward to hearing peoples success stories.

P.s. What is it with weather at the moment. one minute its blue sky and the next its pouring down with rain. is it the same where you are.

Hi Jane

I am assuming by your post you are already a quitter?

Can you answer my favourite question for a long term quitter "Did you put weight on and if so was it easy to get off"!!!!

Welcome

Weight issues

Hi Jane

Before when I tried to quit by myself (and failed) yes I did put on weight but not after going to a a hypnotist. One of the other things they do is tell you (by suggestion) not to eat more than normal.

If your not using a hypnotist then do keep an eye on your weight, believe me it goes up quickly.

p.s. weathers cleared up here now but its still windy.

May have found a cheaper option

I have been looking for a cheaper alternative to what I went through for some time now and most of its no good.

However I may have now found something. And Ill keep everyone informed if it turns out well.

P.s. Nice warm day here. How is it where you are?:D

Hi Jane & jase

Weather not bad here in Cheshire

My hypnotist is £50 a session and he's very good. Ive had 2 sessions so far and he is also giving up smoking. The trick is to get an advanced hypnotist who is associated with the governing bodies or recommendations.

I had a bad experience with one a couple of years ago and ended up a bit doolally

A much less expensive alternative

Hi Everyone,

I have a possible better alternative for any of you want to try and give up smoking the way I did but don't want to pay the huge amount of money.

Instead of talking about it here I 've decided to put it in the quitting tips Section of this forum.

It's under the heading

Low cost alternative to the way I succeeded

P.s. It's so peaceful now the kids are back at school. Does anyone else feel like this.

The forums seen quite alot of it of late, some are becoming ever more devious.. its a bit like on a sunday.. two old dears knock on your door, they seem really friendly, commenting on the weather.. isn't your garden lovely.. they spot your kid in the back room, and its ohh how is your little one now? and all this while your thinking? who the f* are these two old ladies? You try to be nice.. and just as you say anything.. they are then trying to stuff a leaflet in your hand.. The Watchtower? wtf is the watchtower? ohhhhhh..... then it dawns on you.... you have been visited.

Sorry, i love to read about how hypnotism helps some folk, i like to read about how champix, patches, cold turkey, and other methods work for folk.. but turn it into a sales campaign and it gets instant switch off from my attention, and just like those two old ladies who call on a sunday this is about as welcome to me as trying to sell me ones chosen religeon. Not today sorry.. my is that the time? gotta dash n see a man about a dog. *cough*

Hi Everyone!

I can't believe it! In a little less than 4 hours, it will be 1 year since my last cigarette! At this time, one year ago, I was smoking like a chimney, trying to finish my last pack of cigs, and when I put out the last one, I cried. I cried because I was angry...at myself mostly, because I had let myself get addicted to cigaretteswish I could say that I never think about smoking, but that's not true. In fact, just a couple of weeks ago, I had a couple of pretty strong urges. That's all they are though...momentary thoughts about what it would feel like to light up. The thought of how horrible I would feel if I actually did light up has always been enough to keep me on the straight and narrow.

The 1-year mark is a bug hurdle...I'm proud of myself, but I'm not naive. I know that I can NEVER have another cigarette. Every night for this past year I have thanked God for getting me through the day without a cigarette, and I have asked for help with the next day.
