Hello - I'm on day 1.

I came across this forum after a general google search and I'm so pleased to have discovered it - it looks like a fab' place to come to for support and advice.

So I just thought I'd say 'Hi' and introduce myself. I'm currently on Day 1 of my quitting experience. I've made numerous attempts in the past to quit using NRT, Zyban and hypnotherapy; so this time I have decided to go cold turkey.

So far so good :) Although my head feels completely fuzzy and I'm feeling a little irritable over silly things that wouldn't normally bother me...but I know that's the nicotine demon playing up and trying to tempt me back.

Good luck with everyone who is trying to quit - I hope to be able to report tomorrow that I successfully made it through day 1. :)

((( Amanda ))) have a good hug from me, and welcome to our merry forum :)

I have utmost respect for you already doing the cold turkey method, but one thing is for sure, no matter what your early experiences are, any tough times will be replaced by easier later, and you'll regard this choice to tackle this addiction to nicotine head on as the best move you have ever chosen to make.

I'm no expert, i'm just a normal joe-public downtrodden by the same government and life as everyone, i but if I, or anyone else here can help, i am really certain we will.

feel free to let off steam as you go through your experience, we may not be stood in the same room as you but we can give you guidance even if its just re-assurance that your not alone on this quit.

The very very best of luck to you, I look forward to reading of your progress however good .. if its progress, its progress.

YOU CAN DO IT. xx:D

Thank you for all your supportive messages - I needed them this morning!

I barely slept last night, just kept waking up every hour, so I'm feeling pretty grouchy this morning.

They say that the cravings only last about 3 mins - well I'm pretty darn sure I have had one for about 2 hours now :(

I think I'll take the dog out for a walk to take my mind off it - lucky thing, she is going to love all these extra walks she's been getting over the past couple of days :)

Sorry, for my ramblings. I find it does help to write it down - better than screaming at my children ;)

nsd_user663_4990 profile image
nsd_user663_4990

nah scream on here instead, we've all been there.

If its any consolation to you, its just a passing phase... you will see things get easier, and things will improve.

Try some deep breathing for now, and exhale all the bad out . Wait til you've been doing this a while, you'll look back on this post and think.. wow, glad i came through it.

Good luck, and enjoy your walk with the dog.

Hi Amanda

Welcome!!! I am quitting for the first time cold turkey and I have to say this is the longest quit I have ever had - I am on day ten have had a few downers but nothing too bad (bad enough to make me smokethat is)

Three tips that have helped me:

1. I remember everytime I did smoke wishing I didn't have to I have wanted to quit for such a long time - so never doubt the decision to quit smoking!!!

2. when I feel lousy remember it is a withdrawal symtom from a drug addiction

3. MOST IMPORTANT ONE (for me anyway) is that it is ok to think about it!!! If I try to not think about it drives me crazy so remember if the thought does pop into your head its OK its normal just think about it and remind youself that this will get easier and this an AMAZING thing you are doing for yourself!!!

I have my first treat tomorrow - full body massage :D with the money I saved and I am feeling a little tense so cant wait

Keep posting
