Feel terrible

I quit less than a week, and not sure if some of it is a coincidence, but have felt terrible since. Slight headache, weak, sore throat, slight fever last night (37.5, gone today), catarrh, partially blocked nose or sinuses, occasional sneeze and generally tired and dazed.

Really weird as I only used to smoke about 6 a day, more on weekends or nights out. In the past I smoked a lot more, and once quit cold turkey for 1.5yrs without any of the above symptoms. Is this unrelated? Or if not, anything I can do about it or do I need to wait it out...?

Taking paracetamol, hayfever med, lozenges. Help.

First off BigL, congratulations on quitting smoking.

The symptoms you describe 'may' be coincidence and related to your quit, but just as a precaution, can i recommend you ring your doctor anyway and ask their advice first just to be on the safe side. I'm sure its nothing to worry about and may well just be part of quitting smoking, but i don't think we should forget that in and around the world at this moment is a H1N1pandemic flu virus also.

I think a high temperature/fever is the key symptom for that though, and you may just have a summer cold due to our changing climate going from warm to cool all the time, but contacting your doctors is adviseable if you feel its more than just the odd sniffle. If nothing else just to get them to make the call if these symptoms are normal for your quitting or not.

I give up a week today!

I totally emphathize what you are going through Big! I feel awful! Had last fag last wednesday and a puff of one saturday night but it was the drink that made me lapse! I feel worse today than I did to begin with.

Lethargy is the thing that is getting me. Sore throat, irritability (which i expected) but not as severe as i expected last night i could have murdered something! :( I must admit I am struggling more in the past 2 days and wondering why I'm bothering but then logic comes back and I know why but no one ever said how hard it can be! now i want to burst into tears and I don't feel myself at all!!!

WindyC and BigL76

Welcome and well done on your quit. I agree with Marg read loads it really helps. Your aches and pains are probably due to your bodies clrearing out the much from smoking.

Good luck to you both.

Thank you everyone for the support!:)

This morning i feel so much more positive and not so low or grumpy! The cravings dont seem quite so bad today seem to be able to ride them better think i was having a wobble!! My BF promised me last night WHEN i get to being smoke free for a month which i WILL, he will buy me some Jimmy Choos :D (I have a shoe addiction too but i can handle that one) so I have a very big incentive!!

nsd_user663_4990 profile image
nsd_user663_4990

I've had the odd day which has been worse than any others, usually monday is my wobble day now, and I've even approached my boss in work now to tell him that he must ensure i get help on mondays in particular as with that extra help i stand a much greater chance of kicking the smoking altogether. he smoked 40-50 a day years ago so he understands thank goodness.

The funny thing about these 'wobbles' is that the next day, you look back and are able to reflect on it for what it was and it helps you deal with the next one and indeed the ones after that too.

So good on you for seeing it for what it was, and continue as always to post your experiences on here and you'll see you really are not alone and among understanding friends.

Thanks to you both Chrissie and Jase

It is weird what difference a day makes! im very upbeat and happy and proud of myself for making it this far after 23 years and I will make sure I get lots of promises coz he has been on at me for years to give up (gotta use anything these days ;))

AAAAhhhhhh. I feel like I could eat a horse, after clubbing it to death. On the plus side, feeling MUCH better. Having drinks with a chainsmoking friend tonight, should be interesting.

Hi Windy & BigL,

I wanted to quit partly because I was always feeling tired, and always catching colds and not able to shake them off for 2-3 weeks, and although it's only been 4 days, I feel absolutely fantastic. Totall bright and alert, and with none of the symptoms you guys are showing.

I guess it just shows that smoking and quitting affects people in different ways.

Keep it up.
