Pheonix from the flame

Hello all my fellow quitters, After a rocky quit in February (I lasted about 2 weeks) I decided not to let it beat me, and have come back with the gloves on ready to fight another day :) I am doing pretty well so far, I quit smoking on 22 June so have now been quit for about 26 days. I am using patches and an inhilator for when times get really bad. I found the first few weeks remarkably easy but as with previous quits I know this is not the hardest time (For me anyway) It always seem to be hardest and I seem to stumble around the 1 month mark so the next few weeks could be pretty dodgy, I dont know why this is, maybe its because my initial enthusiasm has wore off a bit, I dont know, but I know if I can get through the next 4 weeks I will be well on the way.

As for feeling better, well to be truthfull I havent, I have absolutley no energy and feel very lathargic, I am hoping this passes and am going to try and conquer it by taking up running or doing some other exercise.

This is a great forum with a lot of useful information and advice :)

Day 24 for me

I know what you mean about enthusiasm wearing off a little. There are times the past week and 1/2 where I think boy...this really is hard at times. I had even toyed with the idea of going to the tabaco store and buying a disposable electronic cig.....the rational was.....people use those to quit to smoking so maybe I could use it once or twice just for "reward". I am using the gum so I said to myself...I still have nicotine in my system it is not like I would be cheating.....I am still in the process of quitting it isn't like I would be buying a pack of smokes. Then I realized that well...if I had used that as my initial quit method maybe this line of thinking would be acceptable. Problem is I am afraid I would just get addicted to the e-cig...and maybe the addiction is just trying to get me to replace the habit of smoking cigs for another habit to be able to get the nicotine and the relaxing sensation of smoking. In the end I figured it was a really bad idea. I am making with the gum just fine.

The psychological part of the addiction is what I have found most surprising about quitting. The many ways we try to rationalize participating in the habit and getting the "fix". And not just the nicotine fix but the entire process...the sitting and doing nothing but having that 7 minutes of deep breathing and thinking while inhaling a cig. As I posted in a week 2 thread all the things we have used the habit for....a crutch, boredom cure, stress reliever, pick me up, bring me down,a break and a reward. To now grasp that it wasn't any of those things...we were simply feeding an addiction.

For this quit I have used this forum, nic gum and hypnosis.....and honestly all three together have been quite effective and have made this process a lot easier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep up the good work and here is to us making it through the next four weeks!! Which we can and we will do it!!
