Is this the calm before the storm

Im on the gum.....so im not getting the cravings as thats being taken care of. All I need to focus on is breaking the routine of smoking, which is ok as im keeping busy.

Im worried this is the calm before the storm as its been alot easier than my last lot of attempts. Is it mind set? The gum?

Will I find it difficult coming off the gum? One day at a time I guess.

But it does feel alot easier this time, it helps being about to talk about it on here.

Also, is it normal to constantly think about it? I was obsessed about giving up, now im on day 2 and still obessed!

The thought of picturing myself sneaking off for a fag and looking like a fag ash lill is awful.

Just had to get this off my chest really - thanks for listening!!

Hi Marie :D

Glad to hear you're finding it easier this time with the gum sorry I never used gum but someone will be along that did soon

Thinking about is normal this early in a quit but you'll do so lees and less as you go along until you suddenly realise you haven't thought about for ages

The reading you're doing or have sone will have helped you a lot

Keep it going

Love

Oh I so know what you mean!!

Hi Marie,

I am using the gum and I know what you mean about wondering why it doesn't seem so unbeareble this time around. I am on day 23 of my 7th quit and I have to say this seems easier then ever for me. Now don't get me wrong I still day dream some about having a smoke but it is not a "HAVE" to do it feeling. I typically end the whole thought with "no, I really don't want to go back to that time consuming nasty habit." I too worry about geting addicted to the gum. I find myself trying not have the gum unless I really need it...or I put it off a 1/2 hour from the time I first start thinking about it.

Yes it gets easier....you will think about smoking less and less.....you are doing great! Glad to have a "gum" buddy!

Hi marie .... don't worry that it feel easier than you thought. You may have a difficult day, I found myself having easy days then hard days. I don't mean that in a negative sense at all, the hard days can be overcome. The most important thing is to commit every day to not smoking. That's it :)

I agree with what Hanna's said too, I find I have the odd "want to" craving but not any "HAVE TO" ones. And If I acted on the want to I would soon be back to the have to's, so every day I choose not to smoke that day. And it's working a treat (i'm in week 5).

Morning boys and girls!,

I too am on day two and finding it rather simple and almost easy. I too am wondering is this the calme b4 the storm:o

This is also the first time that i am truely trying to quit apart from when i was preggers but that was easy as i hated the smell of smoke and the idea of smoking.

I'm going ct and have a few craveings after iv'e eaten but they only last a few mins.

Good luck to you all and see u on day three

Your Time

Hi Mimi,

It really could just be your time to quit. It might be easier because it is a decision you made out of really just wanting to quit. I quit with all 4 pregnancies...but it didn' last after birth I think because I "had" to quit. This time I just really wanted to be a non-smoker....I was tired of the control it had over me....I felt like I gave up a lot of time and energy and money to feeding the addiction. I knew it would be hard but it has been much easier then before because I really don't want to be a smoker!

So...I think it sounds like it is your time to quit and you really want it.

Good Job!!
