Day 1 on Champix

Well today is hopefully the start of what will be my smoke free life. I smoked for several years and then quit for nearly 13 years and the stress of getting married and a major move got me smoking again :o Ive now been smoking an additional almost 8 years.

Ive tried quitting a few times but I just havent been able to do it on my own. SO I decided to give the champix a go and while doing some research I found this forum. Im looking to share experience, strength and hope with those who have come before and those who will come after.

Thanx

Welcome.

I'm on day 17 of Champix and day 5 not smoking. Found that champix have really worked for me as I have tried on many occasions over the last 35 years to stop but have never managed before.

You still need willpower and it's not always easy but it is bearable.

The forum is really helpful and everyone is really nice and always ready to listen if you are having a bad day.

Good luck, you can do it :)

You can do it

Yes it is difficult but not impossible. You just have to have the resolve that you are not going to do it. I am on day 16 using the gum. This is the 7th time I have quit....4 of the quits were forced upon me by pregnancy. It is really a different story when you decide enough is enough simply because you don't want to be a smoker any more. It is easier to fight cravings.......and remember cravings actually last a very short period, maybe a few minutes...so stay strong for those few minutes. I find each time I make it through a craving the less the next craving seems to really affect me.

This forum has benn a huge help to me.....even though my husband is quitting with me it is nice to have people to talk to that understand what you are going through. My husband doesn't want to talk about it......thats his way to stay strong.

Good luck...and remember YOU CAN DO THIS!

Hi and welcome

I'm on day 5 Champix and not yet stopped the ciggs but obviously looking forward to doing so. I can't offer any words of encouragement about Champix and not smoking yet but I can tell you that I have read some positive posts on this forum about quitting with Champix so I'm feeling more positive than previous quits. Been a 20 a day habit on and off for 40 years so desperately need to do this for my health. Just stick around and absorb all the good advice you can from here, and look forward to sharing this journey with you :)

Hello there!

I had a good giggle reading that getting married got you soooo stressed that you stared again:D But that matters today is that you have made that final strep to quit again and with or without champix, does'nt really matter.

I have heard alot of good about this method and thay say thats it's a rapid way of becoming sober.!!

Well done to you and keep it up!

Hello there!

well done for your stop!

thing is what i've realised since my stop is that i hated everything about smoking, i mean EVERYTHING.but as ex smokers, like ex-drug addicts we cannot afford to have just one cigarette, because we will always be addicted to nicotine!

i've promised myself that one day i'll start smoking again lol

not sure when, but one day!

haha

love

Hi Monalisa

This forum is a great help, I am on day 9 of Champix and so far im finding it ok, was a bit worried about the side affects (mainly the feeling sick part) but apart from a little bit of dizziness im not experiencing anything else, maybe a little more tired than normal but apart from that its all good.

So far today I have smoked only 9 cigs .... which I must say prior to the Champix I could have done that amount in the hour and a half before going to work.

Good luck. xx

New too! Day 1 on Champix

Hi Everyone!

I don't really belong in this forum as I haven't quit yet - but it is good to know there are others around in almost the same boat.

This is my upteenth time of trying to quit - but I have always used NRT or willpower in the past. My GP gave up on me - so recommended Champix. I am really positive and excited about the future now.

So - Day 1 for me and no real difference with Champix. It will be nice to compare notes!

Tomorrow I run the Race for Life - so that'll be interesting!

Good luck everyone! I'll check in tomorrow.

Of course you belong on this forum as you're quitting smoking I also used champix and found it really good I had very few real craves with it you won't feel any difference for the first day or so but it will kick in fairly qhickly and you'll find you want to smoke less they recommend you smoke as normal for the first week anyway and stop at some point in the second week but for the last couple of days I had to force myself to smoke and finally stopped 2 days before the day i had set as my quit day as they make me feel really ill

Good luck with the race tomorrow

Thanks!

Thanks Marg - I have a feeling I'll be around a while - thank you for your warm welcome. Having looked around the forums, I'm going to take a leaf out of others books and start my own diary thread. I have found the others really motivating and interesting, so I hope others thinking of quitting will find mine as helpful!

Thanks for the web links - I am familiar with both of those sites - they will continue to be my inspiration!

Hi Coaltyt, how is it going on the Champix? Hope you aren't having any problems with any side effects but if you are expereincing stuff well hang in there. Today is Day 9 on champix for me and finally I am getting some benefit as well as the dizzy tired stuff. Have put out each ciggy I have lit up today after a couple of puffs because just felt I didn't really like it or want it. Like your idea of doing a diary, I am enjoying reading others diaries. Just haven't got the patience to do that myself. So look forward to hearing how you are getting on and send best wishes for your success. Congrats on deciding to quit!

is it me?

Hi all...

Im loving this forum. thanks to all of you for the support. Im on day 6 of the champix and havent had too many problems with side effects..at least not as many as Id anticipated.

But.....and of course theres a but :) This is day 6 and im not really feeling too many changes in my desire to smoke.. IS it me or have others had similar experiences? Im coming up on my quit date and am feeling a little unsure

Hi MonaLisa :D

Don't worry the champix will will really kick in very soon now OK

You're on day 6 with it so still on the smaller dose once you get on the higher dose you'll notice a big difference within a couple of days in the amount you want to smoke

So no it isn't you it's just the way champix works OK

I myself didn't notice a difference until the second week but oh boy did it kick in then and by day nine I really didn't want to smoke at all

You have until the end of the 2nd week on them anyway before they recommend you stop as you know and it won't matter if you go a little over that time limit but I don't think you'll need to do that anyway

I was talking to someone here yesterday about the same thing and I think on day 8/9 and he was just taking a couple of puffs and putting them out again as he didn't want them at all

Hi Marg...

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I needed to hear that. I'm more of an anxiety driven smoker anyway..lol..and this would have given me ample reason to smoke ;)
