Kill me! Pleeeeeeeeeeeease!

I have read so many posts today about how it gets easier and the bad stuff stops happening. I'm at day 54 and looking for a noose to put my head in!!! Someone please tell me when the 'gets easier' bit starts and 'the bad stuff' stops? Is it month one, two, three, six or year 1, 2, 3? I think I could take it a little more if I had an idea when the nashing of teeth and screaming at all and sundry will stop!

Sorry you are struggling, Darcy! Month 2 was okay for me but then I started having a little tough time again month 3.... it is a frame of mind though and with effort you CAN change the way you think and therefore reducing craves by being more positive. Read up more and change the way you regard fags.... what is the 'bad stuff' for you? If it is mental craves such as 'I want a smoke so badly' you need to really look at that...... depriving yourself of something will make you very miserable..... learn that there is nothing to miss, that you have gained everything and you will no longer feel deprived..... it takes time to change your thought patterns so don't be too hard on yourself.

Thanks guys . I think it's a mental crave and I guess I am feeling I'm being deprived. My other half was meant to give up with me but is still at it almost 8 weeks later so I'm feeling a bit cheated as well. The constant smell of them is not good either because I still like to scent and we're working in the garden today so whenever he lights up I'm convinced I'm missing something and remember sunny days with a beer and a fag at the side of him last year. Think I'll just club the b***ard to death with my shovel and bury him under the compost. Solves the problem of weeding and smelling cigarettes in one go! Hmmmm a good days gardening me thinks! Good Plan!!!

I too am sitting here with a hubby who won't give up either and I think it makes it 100% harder I would cheerfully strangle him especially when he is being "considerate" and going far away from me and smoking but still rolling the b**** thing in front of me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to kill him. Now!!!!

Hi darcydog,

My OH still smokes and I found that quite hard to begin with as there was no way I could ever forget about smoking. That's where this forum came in so useful!!

Like the others have said - everyone is quite different as to when it does become easier. I think I really believed I would never smoke again and I wasn't affected by strong cravings was at about 3 - 4 months.

I actually think though that you have to do a year and a day before it is really much easier.

I say a year and a day because hopefully then you will have experienced all the situations and 'trigger' moments when you crave a ciggie, eg Christmas, birthdays, holidays, Glastonbury etc!

Stick with it and be patient with yourself - your brain needs time to re-educate itself!

That's a tough situation and of course it's way easy to think you're missing out BUT instead of looking at your OH enviously you could think 'he has to stop at some point and will have to go through this as well..... by then it will be easy for me' or think about the fact that he is in withdrawal all day long and has to feed his addiction on the hour, every hour..... think about the freedom you now have not having to light up all the time..... it takes time.... the more I posted and wrote about more positive ways to think, the more I started to believe it. I don't think it has to take a year for it to get easier though ;) Change your thinking and those craves will fade..... maybe a hypnosis cd might work for you as well? Worth a shot :)

That's right and in answer to your initial question. It gets easier when you understand that nicotine is an insidious beast, and you manage to drop the concept that quitting is a sacrifice.

You will get there, and being able to spot what is happening as you have is half the battle won.

Hang in there.

My hubby was supposed to quit at the same time but did not do it until I was about 60 days done. I wasted much time grumbling about how unfair and selfish he was being by continuing to smoke and I think that made it harder. In the end I gave up getting cross with him and feeling that he was somehow getting something more than I was. Then the quit for me got easier and I became more smug! He ended up quitting not too long after that! I suppose what I am trying to say is use his stinky fag smell and smokers cough to your advantage. You are the winner in choosing not to smoke and are not missing out on anything! x

Thanks Nic, I'm gonna work on the way I look at things and stop beating myself up when I have a bad day! I'm a little to old for having tantrums unless they are over a new bag I can't afford!
