Is champix the best idea?

I am currently on my 3 day of taking champix. Stomach feels awful. Is there anyone out there that has stopped smoking due to champix? Suppose i just want to know how it works and if i will start to feel better soon. Really want to quit smoking this time (after many many attempts).... :) had an asthma attack a few weeks ago and that scared me so much i decided now THIS TIME i would quit!!

Just feeling at the moment that i felt better without the tablets and confidence is quitting has dropped....

If anyone can help it would be useful.

Thanks

I felt the same and by day 6 i stopped taking it for one day to see if i would feel better cos i thought if i feel this bad on the lower dose how would i feel when it increased and i did but then next day i started taking it again and i am on day 11 i feel great the best ive felt in a long im so happy i know i have a long road ahead but today i feel great and i am so glad i kept on taking it really i am. I bought the Allen carrs easy way to smoking book yesterday great buy not only as it kept my mind of smoking its educating me.

Good look in quitting.

My stomach felt worse after a cig, does yours, when i first take the tablet now i do feel shit for about ten mins but it is very mild compared to how i did feel.

The tablet in the morning makes me feel so sick, i have to sit down quietly for a few mins, then everytime i have a fag i feel terrible.

Suppose it is one way of stopping!!

How long have you been taking them for?

Im on day 11, i have found eating a bit of breakfast before the tablet helps. My pains in my stomach after having a cig was horrible. Now im not smoking i dont get no pains, just the little sicky feeling like i said for about ten mins after taking it.

Me and my OH stopped on champix not taking it now, but I did feel bad while I was still smoking so did Mark. When we got to our quit day the symptoms faded, I did have a few prob so only took one tab a day after 2-3 weeks on them but Mark took the full dose right though and had no problem. You need to give them a fair go. :)

Hi JuBub :)

Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathiseing with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

Post often to let us know how you're doing, to rant, rave have a moan whatever you like pretty much anything goes on here OK

I also quit with the help of champix and found it really did help stick with it yes for the first few days you may feel a little sick I did but found that when i took the morning one later that stopped it

It works by telling the brain that you don't want to smoke Ok just smoke as normal for the first week set a day to stop completely sometime in the 2nd week I say smoke as normal tht's what they recommend but I found that almost from the start I wanted to smoke less until by the time I reached my stop day was only smoking 2/3 and didn't really want them at all

So yes you will feel better soon and with champix it will vut down the amount and strength of the craves at least that is what i found anyway

I had also loads of failed quits behind me but I really found it relatively easy this time and have now been quit for 7 1/2 months with the help of champix and this forum

Best Wishes

i am on day 39 of taking champix and day 30 of non smoking. i had and still have some side effects, at the beginning i had nausea esp when i still smoked. eased to just a couple of mins after i take the tablet by day 20 this went away completely now unless i have to take other medication with it,

headaches - from about day 6 - day 18 i had horrid head aches they eased but still come from time to time

dizziness - this is still with me esp going down steps

weird dreams - very realistic dreams it nearly like watching a movie the only problem is if you wake up in the middle you never get to find out the end.... :)

i also got flu and a chest infection a week into taking but not sure if related or not.

but at the end i am off the cigs and if it means 12 weeks of side effects to give up i am willing to do it. i smoked for 18 years and if i count up every chest infection i had or every asthma attack i had the time spent sick i am sure outweight the 12 weeks of a little discomfort

the good news is that 30 days in my asthma has already improved when i smoked i used to use my blue inhalour 3-4 times a day the last week i have only used it twice.

so i would suggest stick with the champix be prepared for a few side effects but just remember what the end result will be.
