So it appears going 'cold turkey' is about 72 hours of feeling awful and then you start to feel better.....It's now 120 odd hours and I feel OK in fact better than OK because all of a sudden I appear to be able to take big breaths without it making me want to cough......I have had a few cravings, more passing thoughts, but no worse than the occasions where I stopped using patches, so am begining to feel hopeful.
I am sick of thinking of myself as a quitter, so am going to start calling myself a non smoker...

Hi non smoker........... and well done on your decision.
I'm not ready to call myself a non smoker yet, don't know why cause i've not had a ciggy in..... 27 days 4 hours 53 mins, I just can't quite say I'm a non smoker...........how weird
I am on day 35 now & also call myself a non-smoker. I know I will not smoke again so to say I have given up sounds like I am giving myself a get out clause!
A non-smoker is just that
Come on Kate,
You are also a non-smoker now, give yourself a HUGE pat on the back

Perhaps its the same as breaking up with a man, if you are still talking in hours/minutes then you are not quite over it yet I am definatley still counting in hours but there's nothing wrong with positive thinking x

Well done Rivergirl. Right you are over the worst now - all you have to do is not start smoking again! You are a non-smoker and remember - non-smokers don't crave ciggies or have the occasional puff. Stay as a non-smoker and enjoy your healthier, wealthier life where you are actually in control of what you do!
I know what you mean about being able to take deep breaths - I love the fact that I can breathe deeply even first thing in the morning and I can yawn properly without having to 'hold some of it back' if you know what I mean!

I saw this and it made me laugh. Isn't it odd that simply breathing causes a smoker so much angst? Used to cough my lungs up if I had a deep yawn. I still have the feeling of compression in the bottom of my lungs cos they haven't opened up yet but I'm not coughing everyone yawn with me.. niceeeee healthyyyy oxygeeeenn. Isn't it nice to be free?
