I am fed up with smoking

I got in from work dog tired, feeling low. Sat down in my usual chair, lit a fag and wondered what the hell I was doing. The urge not to smoke was so strong I threw the fags away after destroying them. 5 hours later have not had one. By now I would have had 8. I want to give up now. I have smoked for 25 years. Given up 3 times, each time for 1 year (babies forced me to do this). What do I do now to maintain the momentum. I am fed up with smoking!!!

Right - it is excellent that you are 'fed up with smoking'. That was my first incentive to quit too. Secondly, well done on finding this site as it has been this site that has given me the momentum and more importantly the KNOWLEDGE to quit and STAY quit.

Read as much as you can about your addiction, believe in yourself, and give your brian the time it needs to retrain itself out of the habit.

You have made the decision - you just have to stick to it.

At the moment I am so cross with myself for having smoked all those years the fury is keeping the momentum going. What I fear is this fury and anger will be gone by he morning and am wracking my brain to think of something else to replace it so that I don't smoke in the morning. I am furious, determined and a little crazy at the moment. I have never felt this way before!!! I am going to read and read and read tonight and hopefully I will read my way into not having that fag in the morning, even though, to me, it is the best one of the day.

Tomorrow will be tough, but you know that - you've quit before, all you need to do is be prepared for it. Know that you will get cravings but remember, they are not painful, they won't kill you (ciggies will eventually) so be prepared to just concentrate on getting through tomorrow. It doesn't matter if its sweets, chewing gum, chubba lollies, or sipping water, going for walks just get through tomorrow.

Then the next day deal with that day - one day at a time.

It takes determination but you sound determined.

Read as much info that you can - there are links in NicFirths sig - read as many posts on here as you can and go for it!

Half way there...

Yeah your half way there just wanting to quit, Now its the big quit, which on a forum like this with so much help and advice will definately help you.

I for one do not think I would be on my 4th month with all the fantastic people on this forum, and so much information to read and help you.

Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathiseing with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

Post often to let us know how you're doing, to rant, rave have a moan whatever you like pretty much anything goes on here OK

Welcome to the forum.

Quitting or rather staying quit is more about the right frame of mind than anything else!!

You will find it easier if you can see quitting as a positive experience, regaining health wealth and control and let go of the feeling that by quitting you are somehow depriving yourself of a great pleasure. You are already half way there with the feeling that you are fed up with smoking, quitting isn't a sacrifice, you are losing nothing.

Browse through the links in my signature the top 2 have lots of information and inspiration, while the last 2 are free online quit smoking programs.

Most of all smoking is a choice, choose not to feed your addiction to nicotine any more.

Welcome to the forum, Eds! Hope your day goes well today. When it gets too tough come on here and rant..... during my early quit, coming on here is what kept me going..... you're not alone :)

You've done this before so you know how to do it! It's not fun but when you 'arrive' you realize it was all worth it. Reading and learning about your addiction will give you a good foundation and make you appreciate your decision to stop smoking ever so more and help you stay quit. Good luck :)

Good morning all

Well, I'm up and about this morning and have not had a smoke. I decided not to have a cup of coffee 'cause that is one of the triggers for me I think. As soon as I visualised a cup of coffe, I visualised a fag too. I am not angry anymore, but I still feel as though I am not in my own skin. As mentioned before, I stopped as soon as I knew I was pregnant with my children but I honestly do not remember any feelings of withdrawal or anything like that. How wierd!!! Mind you it was some years ago and now I look back and think thank God I had healthy children 'cause I have always been a heavy smoker. This time is definately different. I WANT TO GIVE UP. It is going to be hard as my topsy turvy emotions are just masking the true withdrawal at the moment. I will let you know later how I get on.

Welcome and well done, the first day stopped is the biggest day as without it there are no others. I also used to drink coffee when I smoked but stopped the same day the cigs went and have never had a cup since, one of those association things.

Remember that thought of when you were sitting in your chair and you stubbed out the cigarrette and thought to yourself 'I don't want to do this anymore, I'm fed up with smoking - always keep that moment within reach so that you can get back to it whenever those niggles come your way.

Good luck to you - I am just finishing day 3 and will be writing Day 4-7 tomorrow. Keep in touch. There are a few of us in the same week so we can encourage each other!!

Need Support to Quit

I am fed up as well.... I quit for almost one month but started again.... Now came here again to get the help of your guys... I feel that only will power is required to get rid of this bad habit....

smoking sucks!;)

i think i'am on day 12 now and i can tell you the urges to lesson over time!

i do have the odd urge still, but it's easier to overcome as time gos on.
