Aaarrrgggg! I slipped up!

NOOOO! I got a comment from someone about my quit which really got to me, and I spent ages obsessing about having a cigarette. Finally, stupidly, I went into a friend's flat, ripped my patch off and had one. It wasn't even pleasant, I stubbed it out after a few puffs, I now feel really stupid and wished I hadn't.

Well I'm not going to stop my quit just because of one silly mistake. I put a new patch on, am chewing some minty gum and am going to have to learn to react so much to ignorant comments.

No way I'm going back to day one.

A rather confused P. x

Hi Paul :D

I'm sorry to hear of your small slip, but glad you didn't smoke the whole fag as B B says it must have been some comment

There are some really stupid/ignorant people out there who seem to delight in needling quitters, was it a smoker who may have been jealous, they're usuallly the worst in my experience

There is no reason for you to feel stupid

Love

Must have been some comment!

What was it, if you don't mind me asking? (might help others if they come up against the same)

"You were happier when you smoked" by a smoker.

"You were happier when you smoked" by a smoker.

That's been lobbed at me on previous, failed, quits. And it's an unhelpful (to put it mildly!) comment. Maybe the person who says it is jealous, I don't know.

I think these days my response would be something like - "Not at all! I was a miserable git then too!"

You are still determined to quit so don't let anyone else, or their stupid opinion, get in the way of that.

Hi Paul :D

I thought it would be a smoker

Try to ignore people like that, they're jealous of you, because they're to spineless to quit themselves

My ex boss is like that, he tried so many times to needle me imto smoking again,I stand to make £50 from him next weekend when I hit 6 months

He started off by betting I wouldn't make 3 months then said he'd double it if I reached 6 and he was quitting now

Well he's still smoking and I'm still quit I WIN

Marg - that's brilliant news .. all down to yours then - you'll be buying us all a beer, right ?

You should make out you've had a really bad weekend, to a mutual friend who has a tendency to gossip - then get him to double it again!!

We can all have a chaser then as well !!

Hi Jim :D

Well I could tell the Lady that took over my job, she's up his ahem as far as possible, that might do it

Only trouble is you'd have to wait for your beer for another 6 months, you want to do that

Or could settle for the £50 for beer I have a bottle of whisky in the cupboard Sssshhhhhhhh don't tell anyone else OK

If you're all coming to mine better make it next Sat as going away Monday for a few days but,

remember NO SMOKING :D :D you lot

Am I classed as a non smoker 1 month and 1 day in?????....I feel like one...We have blips my friend...I have tried stopping probably over 50 times..each time will be the last..This is the longest I have gone and god do I feel good.....Our brain is looking for an excuse to start smoking....I am not saying that your argument/excuse was not good enough...but when you think about it any excuse will do....my cat nibbled at my tomato plants last week...thats good enough for me.give me a pack of 20 lambert.....I cut my finger peeling a potato....**** it give me a lambert....Its so easy finding excuses to stop...ask yourself ' am I ready'??? that will give you the answer....1 month gone I have beat it!!!!! I could reward myself with a cigarette..yeaahhhhh...I love taking the wrong choice....Not this time.....Cravings come and go...smoke free days add up...health getting better.....finances improving....smoke or not smoke? the choice is easy..

Hi there,

welcome to the forum. It sounds like you are well on the way but maybe read some of the tales from the quit? They and other links can be very inspiring and help the mental issues you may encounter. Sometimes I have to remind myself I am a non smoker. I spent so many years being afraid to stop that now I have, and my life has become so much better, it just doesn't seem real sometimes. xx

No matter where you go in life, there will always be people you will face or speak to that are ignorant to the things you do or want to do. It's these people that have nothing better to do than sit there and pretend to enjoy the way their lives are. I don't begrudge anyone that wishes to smoke, I was one myself 11 weeks ago, and I do not intend to become a new ex-smoker who wafts her hand about the place and proclaims to hate it with a passion. I am not that person. I do believe however that it is everyone's individual right to do as they please and if you want so badly to give up smoking, grab it with both hands and tell the addiction to "GO FIND SOMETHING BETTER TO DO, COZ YOU AIN'T LISTENING!". Don't take what people say too seriously, with comments such as the one you got, it's just mindless igorance and if they enjoy it, LET THEM! It's fine by me, and YOU and everyone else on here, but we are just choosing not to! :D
