Hello I am totally new to forums so please bare with me if I have posted in the wrong place or made any other mistakes.

I have been taking Champix for 11 days and today is the first day of no smoking. I dont think I have been craving as such but I cant stop thinking of smoking and I am battling with the thought of having just one more cigarette!! I really do want to beat this and I am even reading Allen Carr's book at the same time as taking medication...lol

Is it usual to be constantly thinking about cigarettes and how long do these thoughts last?

Hiya Shell. Welcome to the forum. A Champix user will be along soon to give you more help on that subject than I can. Just one cigarette may seem a good idea right now, but, after the next 1000 you'll be back to square one. You'll find some useful links on some of the posts, so read and read. David

Hi Shelley :)

Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathiseing with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

I also quit with the help of Champix and found it very good,it really does help but you'll still need willpower as well

It's quite usual to think about smoking, most of us do to start with, so try and keep busy, go for a walk whatever it takes is fine but just don't smoke OK

Post often to let us know how you're getting on, have a moan or a rant, for any reason at all pretty much anything goes on here

Remember we're all here for you whenever you need us

Best Wishes

Welcome

Hi shell welcome to the forum. I have been taking champix for 4 weeks and have been stopped for 3 weeks, yes it is perfectly normal to think about cigs some days it used to drive me mad. Its great though you start to notice that you have not thought about them for half a day and it gradually gets longer. Some days go by and hardly a thought of cigs then another they seem to be on your mind all the time.

It is a great forum everyone is very helpful, just keep posting :)

Hi there and well done on your quit. I am not a champix quitter but I can also vouch that with the right mental attitude the craves get less and less. They can still give you a nudge now and then but the constant nag goes. Reading Allen Carr is a great way to start you off. Check out some of the links and post when you crave. xx

Hi all, having read through some threads I am now hoping that I have psoted in the right area too.!

I am literally on day 1 of champix and have to say even now the smokes do not taste the same,is it all in my mind or can the effects work that quick?

I have tried all forms of nrt before and always go back on the smokes and have to say my willpower is not that good, but with a work collegue we have decided to give champix a whirl,so wish us luck and will post the progress!!

Hi Shellie and starfish and welcome.

I am a Champix user (lol that sounds weird, Hi my names Bob and I'm a Champix user)

OK back to what I was going to say. I am now on day 13 of my quit and I stopped on day 10 of taking Champix. I find the tablet has been a great help to me through my quit so far. I have had some of the side effects but none have been that bad. I have felt sick a few times and the dreams in the first couple of weeks were very vivid. but I see this as a small price to pay for when I reach the light at the end of the smoke filled tunnel.

Shellie I like you also read the Alan Car book again during this quit as well as reading hundreds of posts on this forum.

To top on that I listen to the 'easy way' on CD on my way to work(sad I know). I really do believe that if you are prepared mentally to quit smoking you will have a better chance of succeeding. Education is the key to success.

#Alan Carr Quote# Try not to think of you quit as if you are depriving yourself of anything, Instead be glad that you have stopped poisoning yourself with cancer triggering chemicals.

OK rant over for now but remember to never doubt your reasons for quitting and stay positive. It does get better and it will be worth the effort.

After searching the net came across this site and.... wow there are more people going through the same as me, I thought I was the only one in the world that wanted to stop but needed every crutch known to man as help:eek:

HELP from everyone out there would be great.......that's if I've posted this correctly. I did send an email but god knows where it went........need a fag.......

That's what keeps me here too. The other fora I'd come across were full of success stories. Nobody ever failed, hard to believe. Here people go to week 2 ,3 or even month and end up on day 1 again. Seems much more honest/real. Not that I rub my hands in glee if somebody fails, I'm going through a pretty hard battle myself at the moment. Just not quite there yet. Made it 18 hours the other day, unplanned but started again. Regret just a little cos it will happen.....soon.

Just stick around, keep reading, make notes of what you think applies to you, stick those notes somewhere where you can see them the whole day.

Thanks Margareth, was a surprise, at least for me.

Kate13, if your note taking looks a bit more organised than my one it won't hurt, but it helped me to get those 18 hours together.

can't sleep

:D Oh my good god this is hard, had to get up cause the thought of not smoking is driving me up the wall and keeping me from sleping................now on day 7 of champix, the double dose and they are making me feel oh soooo sick, but will stick at it:eek:

Thanks Bioxx for the advice, I have written a long list of reasons for stopping

I have written a long list of reasons for stopping

Good idea, keep it handy, either somewhere where you constantly see it or where you usually carry your fags.

My desk looks already worse then in the photo, keeps piling up, so what? Whatever helps is fine.

While up the wall, try the ceiling too. :D I'm not making fun of you, believe me I'm myself in the worst battle I've ever been.

Hi Kate :D

I'm sorry you're feeling sick on the higher dose of champix I had the same problem, you could try eating before you take them although that didn't help me it does some people

I just took my later in the morning about 9 instead of first thing and that stopped the sickness

Try not to be nervous about stopping, the thought is worse than the doing

Love

Marg xxxx

Hi Bioxx :D

Yep your desk does look a bit messy, but as you say whatever helps is fine and you can always clean it up when you're free and clear of this addiction we all have to fight
