Day 1 of month 2! Woohoo. I can't believe I actually got here after 2 disastrous quits last year. Big congratulations to anyone else who stopped on the 1st Jan and is still fighting :D

One thing though, I know the quitters cough is a normal thing, but mine started properly last week and I'm waking up every morning feeling like I smoked 40 fags the night before. Really tight chest and not being able to cough anything up. Then, after half an hour or so I start coughing up really thick disgusting phlegm. Is this normal? Is it normal to start so late into the quit? Is it normal that my 'smokers cough' is worse now that I'm not smoking than it ever was when I was smoking?

Lots of questions I know, but I would like to hear other people's experiences of the coughing.

Hi Dave

Well done you are doing really well you ask is it Normal to have cough start so late in the quit

I don't think there is a normal my cough started after about 5/6 weeks but i never did bring anything up then it stopped as suddenly as it began after about 10 days so who can say what is normal.

Mine was also worse than when smoking as when smoking only coughed if i had a bad cold.

Good luck:D

Great stuff Dave, well done :) Im at same stage as you.

Sorry cant help you with the cough, i have had a cough since i stopped but i have not had a productive cough where i have coughed up phlegm.

Maybe someone else can help, i would guess it is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about but im not a doctor.

Good Luck with your quit.

How are you finding the cravings now?

Today is a bit mad, but im hoping tomorrow will be better.

Denise

Well done Dave!

Not sure about the cough but I have read a lot of info that it is normal to have a cough after quitting so I'm sure you'll be fine.

I will be joining you in month 2 on Weds although I really want to get past week 6 as that's the longest I have quit for in the last couple of years!

Keep strong!

Thanks for that BibleBlack. I tried doing a search earlier but gave up lol. One especially interesting thing I found was the mention of Post Nasal Drip. I've had an intermitten problem with a very bad sore throat and sticky stuff in the back of my throat for about 4 months now. I went to see the doctor and was told there was nothing wrong with me! I will now go back armed with a little bit of knowledge!

As for the cough, I reckon I'll just have to see it through, and if it starts getting worse then I'll see the doctor.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement.
