Getting geared up to quit

Well, gonna try again to stop this addiction. I'm new here - decided to try online support this time around, see how that works. I'm going to be quitting cold turkey...I have my quit day marked - March 26th. Yeah, it's still a couple months off, I know. But this is for good, and I'm playing for keeps. Why so far off? Well, money is tight here in literati land, and I'll get a profit sharing check at the end of March. I'm going to use part of it to join the local Y, and start an exercise program. Exercise helps me relieve stress a ton, way more effective than smoking.

In 2007, I used the patch and exercise to quit smoking for about four months. Then I started a new job, moved, and didn't workout for about a week. No stress relief. And, sure enough, I reached for a pack. I was stupid, no question about it. And it's true, all it took was one puff to get me back to smoking. And I went from my pack a day habit for 15 years to two packs a day when I started up again...back to a pack/day now, but I didn't just fall off the wagon, so much as leap from it into a freefall.

So, here I am now. Getting into the proper mindset, and what not. I feel confidant now, but ask me on March 29th how things are going, heh. Hopefully I won't kill anyone at work..

Well done on making the decision, if I may make a suggestion have a look at the ffsonline free stop smoking program (link in my sig) you should start it while still smoking!

Good luck

Nic

dont wait so long before you quit..it will be on your mind for the next few months,,and when you do quit ,you might think you missing something,,it dose happen..i cant see what difference it will make weather you stop now or in march..be brave and stop now,,cause when your quit day comes you will be about 8 9 weeks stoped..as i say keep the faith tony

I have been thinking about moving my quit date up to next week, honestly, while it's still fresh in my mind to do it. I figure I'll finish up this carton I bought a couple days ago, and if I still have some left over when the quit day comes, flush what's left. I thought about giving them to a friend of mine who smokes, but I don't want to contribute to anyone's addiction...

Thanks for the advice (and kick in the pants) - I think I picked such a far off quit day knowing that I would likely forget about it. Jan. 15th it is.

Well Done! That's a great move, Jan 15th! I'm only on day 6, found it hard but can honestly say I wouldn't be on day 6 if it wasn't for this forum, it's really comforting knowing that other people are going through or have gone through quitting and understand and know what it's like. Get as much info as you can from other posts. Congratulations on setting you quit date, you're a step further to quitting already, Good luck, you can do it! :)

Need on line support

I am new to the forum and I too have decided yet again I am going to quit as from today. My big problem is that I have done it all before - I gave up for 10 years (yes thats right 10 years)and started again, then gave up for 8 years and started again. I've done cold turkey, patches and read the Alan Carr book but the bottom line is I actually enjoy one or two cigarettes - how sad is that. I'm a 60 year old female fitness fanatic who goes to the gym 5 times a week and swims regularly and hoping that on line support may keep me on track this time.

I guess peer pressure works for good and for bad, huh? :p Good luck with your quit mate. Think you've made the right choice moving it forwards. I've set my date for the 20th but like a few people said there, it will prey on your mind (which it is on mine). All the best

I'm feeling a bit more cheerful. The "fag gang" at work have just returned from being huddled in a corner against the biting wind and I wasn't one of them. Have announced in the office I am in the process of giving up and I feel good having announced it. A friend has joined me with the patches so I'm feeling optimistic.
