When you smoke, your gums are much thicker and tougher... the skin has changed to try and defend against the fact you are poisoning yourself. This is corrected when you stop.
When I mentioned it to my dentist, he said that gums bleeding during brushing is not a problem, and can actually be good.
If they bleed at any other times it is a sign of gum desease, but during brushing it is not a problem in any way. He advised me to be a little more gentle, but they still bleed a little.
According to him, very common amongst quitters.
I don't have the funny taste - but a lot of people on here have mentioned it.
Good to know others have had the same! just looked at the post nasal drip thingy-that could be it bible! there are herbal remedies for this so might give it ago!
new to the forum and have never stopped moaning-SORRY GUYS!!!-bloody dumb blond really!!!

I think a lot of people have had trouble with bleeding gums just after the quit I know I certainly did. Don't brush quite so hard, try a softer brush, floss every day and use inter dental brushes, You'll have lovely clean gums and pearly white teeth, clear of the nicotine stains!
I to had problems with bleeding gums but when i spoke to the nic nurse about it she said it was normal as now you are not smoking your blood has extra oxygen it it or something
I recently made an appointment with a dentist and she said this is very normal. It takes some time for the gums to realise that they are freeeeee! of crap and stuff and start to relax, a few hygeine appointments and things will start to corrext themselves....wooo hooo Has anybody suffered from really bad bleeding gums? hi all went to the dentist and had a fab deep cleanse!--dentist said i have healthy teeth and my bleeding gums are sign of healing, due to more oxygen been delivered to the gums engorging them with blood and can take upto six months to settle.
Hi Carrie-since this thread started i went to the dentist and had the only way i can describe it a severe clean-it was painful, however, the bleeding has definately got alot better xxx
good luck with your bid for freedom from the weed-however you seem to be doing really well 2months-well done you xx
Unfortunately gum problems sometimes only rear their head after you quit - your gums are finally receiving a decent blood supply and are in shock
Mine were bleeding quite a bit and feeling very tender but after a trip to the hygienist and a thorough scale and polish all seems to be well.
I was a bit longer quit than you are now but I've known people have problems after a few days - get yourself an appointment with your dentist so they can check your gums
Yes I have suffered with bleeding gums too and and 'achy' mouth if that makes sense. But it is all signs our bodies are healing. I used/use the corsidal gel toothpaste and mouthwash and whilst the toothpaste tastes yucky it seems to have worked.
Also went to the dentist the other day to see the hygienist for a 'deep' clean and I'm proud of my pearly whites.
No furry toungue, no stained teeth no ash tray breath. No subtly trying to hold my hand over my mouth when I talk to people just incase they can smell fag breath
It's all good.
I'd advise as pookie did to get checked out by your dentist.
Just see it as temporary nuisance but well worth it for your lifetime of freedom
I agree, bleeding gums and mouth just felt like a train wreck, I went to the dentist on Monday and all he did was praise me for quitting smoking, teold me that bleeding gums was normal and promised that if I stuck it out for another 6 weeks I could go back and he would remove all the nicotine stains and give my teeth a nice polish free of charge :D:D:D
I didnt have a big problem with this but after I quit I did find that they always bleed when I cleaned my teeth as I was always spitting out blood but it hasent happened the last couple of weeks so like mouth ulcers its probabley part of the quit but should clear itself up with a bit of time.
