Quitting for "good" the first time around was one of the hardest things I did.
I started smoking at 16, and spent the next 10 years being a smoker that hated everything about smoking. I would almost walk around with a self loathing, at the fact i smoked. then one day aged 27 I just woke up and stopped. after years of patches, gums, tapes and willpower, i just stopped.
I praised the ground that it wasn't a fluke, I kept waiting for the "need" to return but it didn't, I was free. I rejoiced.
Then 6 weeks ago, I had one. then a few smoke free days. then a couple on a night out. Then 2 or 3 smoke free days. I went into denial. I ignored the fact. i kidded myself I could handle it. 5 weeks later I'm hooked. Back on them full time. I hate myself. i cant believe it.
So, here I am day 3, smoke free. Getting a bit testy, could use some solid support........

Well you've found out that there isn't such a ting as "just one" but congrats on getting to day 3. Its a bit of an endurance the 1st week, try to keep busy and get through. Focus on the fact that you quit before but know this time you won't slip back.
Keep Talking myself out of them. Havent got any in the house, so doesnt realy matter if the craving comes or not at the moment.
I like the way the mind tries to trick you, i can hear the voice - only one - it doesnt count - youve still gone 3 days - just a few puffs to take the pain away - then you can go back to being a non-smoker.
Sneaky the way it just creaps up on you.
Im being strong, roll on 3pm and everyone come home and the house is busy and I wont get the cravings then.
Congrats on your day 3 the first week is the hardest but things will soon improve. Stick with us we are all in thid together. May I ask what part of wales you from. xxxxxxx
At foothills of the Brecon Beacons, but south end as opposed to mid Wales.
Sort of in between Merthyr, Aberdare and Brecon.
I agree about acknowldging the cravings. When I get one, I just talk myself through them, as in, i dont want a fag, i dont need a fag, if I give in now, Im back to square one as opposed to being on square 3. LOL
Im taking myself through I mild brainwashing at the moment, as in, insted of thinking I want a cigerette and am mising out, Im telling myself I dont want one and each day I take is step away from the cravings. Its about looking forward insted of back.
Hope this is making sense
Just wanted to join up here, so when Im in a real sticky moment i have somebody who is the other end of the forum saying NOOOOOO, whilst Im going through the craving.
Things will get much better in the next day or two honest. Just take it hour by hour if need be. Just asking because Im from swansea so not to far away about an hours drive. Nice to have someone on here from my neck of the woods. xxxxxxxx

Brainwashing is a good way of putting it, if you get your mind sorted then everything else falls into place. Quitting is not sacrificing, cigarettes are not "forbidden fruit" - not smoking is about gaining a better way of life.
If you affirm that concept to yourself over and over again it does sink in, and each time you repeat it to yourself you inch closer to the mind set of a non smoker.

Hello and welcome
Exactly one year ago I was going through the same thing. Time initially seemed to stand still, but now I think it has flown and I no longer want or need a fag.
Keep with it, its so worth it and did any body mention to read. Educate yourself on why people really smoke and it becomes so much easier to cease.

Yes not far from you about 45 mins as I'm more neath way than merthyr, one of those little villages there!
Yes, am re-training my mind. Originally started this by telling myself, lets just go back to the days when you can have the odd one, take it or leave it. Like before. but what i really want to be saying is lets go back to the five years where I didn't have to, let alone need the odd one.
So pleased today is a little easyer maybe your over the worse now. How long did you smoke when you started after the 5 years? Are you using any aids or are you going cold turkey as they say. xxxx
Going cold turkey as they say, but even though I have not read it since my final quit 5 years ago, I'm mulling over in my head some Allan Carr, it funny how well its has stuck!
Thankfully Im not boozing this weekend so should be fine getting to week 2. Have a friend coming down for xmas who smokes, but im hoping I'll be over the worst of it then.
Fortuntely, she smokes Marlboro, which i wouldnt touch if i was actually smoking, so dont think I'll be tempted there either.
