I think you need help beyond what is available here mate, but what I can say is that smoking won't help anything.

If you're hitting the booze too much, you need to address it and the coke ain't a good idea either. You might also want to read this article about the effect or the cocaine industry on Colombia, and how using it funds violence and death.

Good luck with it.

Nic

i totally agree. i dont think the reason for the drugs is to do with smoking/giving up. thats a seperate issue all by itself, one in which you need to seek profession help for if you feel you cannot stop it by yourself

Sorry to p*** on your fire, but for those who seem to be having dependency forming habits, and lets face it the OP seems to be, this could just end up another slippery slope to be taking.

For the OP, I think only you know whether or not the Coke habit is becoming problematic for you. and if it is, then you are best seeking help from your local Drug Treatment Unit, and I'm not necessarily talking NA here, as they have a very narrow minded approach to substance misuse.

However i can appreciate that it may be hard for you to take that step (as in it admitting there is a problem there), so if you wish to PM me, i would be happy to talk to you about these matters as I spent 6 years working as a substance misuse worker and can hopefully point in the right direction for support and information.

Yes, yes I can see why you'd think that telling someone with alcohol and cocaine problems to go and masturbate would be funny.....

Wonder what the Moderators were doing yesterday.

For what it's worth, I also wonder about the wisdom of members declaring themselves as having expertise in matters of mental health/drug abuse and offering this expertise to others. I seem to remember the "authorities" here taking a very dim view of this when they accused Catwoman (wrongly) of doing this. Then again Catwoman wasn't popular either. Interesting, isn't it, that it's overlooked when it suits.

You begin to wonder if the moderators are actually reading the threads at all.....

I think if you were referring to my post, i take it then that a degree in psychology plus post graduate counseling qualification not included. Plus having spent 6 years working with substance misuser's, and 4 years in Criminal Justice field, not to mention the various Government Committees I sat on.

If you read my post carefully, it does state that the poster should seek out their local Substance Misuse Agency for support. However if they wanted to chat about things privately, they could PM me - not necessary that they will get thearpy from me via PMs as that would be both unprofessional and unethical.

But judging by some of the other posts that had been placed here, I thought a sympathetic ear might, do wonders.

It's not your role here to offer those services, irrespective of your qualifications. You're here as a smoker, looking for help like the rest of us, not as a mental health professional.

I note though you emphasised your qualifications while offering to have this "chat".

You're quite right that it would be entirely unethical and unprofessional to offer therapy via PMs but it does appear that this was implied in your post..otherwise why did you feel it relevant to refer to your background at all.

i dont get why your getting funny about this?? i think it was a nice thing for her to offer help to someone who quite clearly needs it. why we have to split hairs about everything on this forum, i really have no idea !!!

I agree with Carl on this topic...

This forum is intended to be for the use of a group of people trying to do the same thing - quit smoking. The OP problem's would be best dealt with elsewhere and by other means. However, people offering advice just as people I would say is fine... people offering advice claiming (whether true or not) various professional qualifications is a completely different matter. Very dangerous.

However, on other points bought up on this and other threads - I don't know.

I wasn't here during the "flame wars" and much of the evidence has been removed. So, I can only speak as I find. This forum has been a massive help in my quit, I doubt I would be as happy with it as I am if this place wasn't here.

I find the moderators to do a generally good job, although mistakes do get made occasionally.

I also find that there are a couple of members who go out of their way to be argumentative, particularly towards the mods - and I guess that this is a hangover from the old days...

Speaking as I find the place - the argumentative members are the ones that cause the problems rather than the mods.

I don't know the history, but thats the way it looks to me - and I guess to other newer members as well. I don't mean to cause offence with these comments, but even if there is very good reasons for your actions - I think you should know the way that others can see it.

Sorry carl, but you seem to be missing the point. Here is a quote from my orignal post and if Im not mistaken it says, PM me and I will point you in the right direction for support and advice, not PM me for support and advice.

May I suggest you read things properly before jumping up and down.

Carl

That was uncalled for and not appropriate on this forum

Please refrain from posts of this nature in the future

Many thanks
