How much poison is in my system???

Its incredible..day 12 after stopping, and my body is STILL adjusting... my heads still a little fuzzy, still cant sleep..and now I have sore throat and some mouth ulcers... just shows how much poisoning was going on in my body, if it reacts like this whilst trying to clean it up.

Hopefully this will just make me more determined to stay stopped now... smoking has caused these symptoms..it doesnt stop them..it creates them!!!!!

God knows what my lungs must be like.

Yep, well done on 12 days - and it does go to show that if your body really does take so long to reach normality after stopping... just what damage you have been doing.

had loads of weird dreams too!

apart from feeling tired, i quite like the symptoms cos it shows our bodies are cleaning up! clever things they are :)

well done for staying strong yesterday. next time u feel like that just remember how glad you felt the next day that you didnt cave in

Hello, yes, I am on day 12 too and cannot believe how I have been affected so much by stopping smoking!

The sleep pattern is just starting to get back to normal and the tension headache has gone.

It is hard to believe how we smoke for years and manage to block out the damage we are doing to ourselves.

On the other hand it is incredible to think we smoke for years, decades sometimes and yet our bodies are wonderful and can undo much of the damage within a three weeks or so.

Thank goodness for that!

Well 3 weeks for some of the obvious stuff. Some of the "damage" is with us for ever... :(

So how does that explain how I had almost constant mouth ulcers for many years that have now dissapeared since I gave up.

Everybodies body reacts differently to stopping, one of the benefits for me was not to have at least one mouth ulcer constantly... and sometimes 10 or even 20 at a time.

I hadn't heard of any benefits from Nicotine! but maybe its because most of the tobaccos we buy is laced with carcinogenic materials there's probably only 10% Pure Tabacco in cigarette:eek:

my dentist told me that smoking is responsible for a lot of Gum and dental problems and of course Oral Cancer:eek:

aaaah well Stuart, you obviously had a completely different strain of nicotine resistant ulcers... I shall have a wee surf and resolve this query... :D

Here we go....

Source Med J Aust, 154(7): 471-2 1991 Apr 1 Abstract OBJECTIVE:

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of nicotine, in the form of Nicorette tablets, on aphthous ulcers in nonsmoking patients. The study was prompted by the observations that smokers are less likely to suffer from mouth ulcers, that some smokers on quitting develop them, and that patients on nicotine replacement therapy are less likely to develop ulcers than those having other types of smoking cessation therapy. CLINICAL FEATURES: The three nonsmoking patients who were selected for the study each had a long history of recurrent aphthous ulcers with no remissions. INTERVENTION AND OUTCOME: Each patient was given up to four 2 mg Nicorette chewing tablets per day. After one month of this regimen each patient was weaned off the tablets. In each case the ulcers healed and new ulcers did not appear during Nicorette therapy. Two of the patients relapsed when weaned off the tablets. CONCLUSIONS: This preliminary trial shows that nicotine may have a beneficial effect on aphthous ulcers. Further studies are necessary to elucidate the mechanism.

Please note that these non-smokers were deliberately given a "drug more addictive than Heroin"

Crazy what they do in the name of research!

I used to know biochemist working in a university research department, that spe******ed in eyes. He did loads of work on treatment of parasitic infections associated with wearing contact lenses, etc.

One time his team was commissioned, by a drugs company, to investigate the possibility of treating a rather painful eye condition with an extract from the cannabis plant.

It never got as far as trials as they concluded that it would be unlikely to have any effect on the condition. However, the patient would barely be aware of it, or anything else for that matter, as they would be permanently high as a kite! :D:D
