Welcome to the forum.
Good for you,
AFAIK you are the 1st one to post today as your day 1 and often people don't find us until several days into the quit. There are a few who started on Monday so aren't that far ahead.
Glad its going well so far.
All the best.
Nic
Hi Steve - welcome to the forum. You will find lots of support and advice on here and plenty to read. What method are you using to quit?

Hi Steve

Many thanks and some answers to your questions
Thanks for this support.
I am 43 now and have smoked since School. I have tried before to quit but have always done the hard part then slipped back with 'just the one' usually with alcohol involved. My hardest part of quitting is always the mind games - not craving physically but just mentally. However i havent enjoyed smoking for a good 2 to 3 years now. I just dont like it anymore and since the smoking ban came in to force in pubs (the only place i 'enjoyed' a smoke) I really have wanted to quit. I dont smoke at home (only in the garden) due to 3 young children and ive done this for about 4 years or so - Even though i have my own company it has been a non smoking office for many years and of course now is by law anyway so i am really fed up with going out in the cold, wet, wind etc to do something i dont enjoy anyway. It really is time to stop.
I read an article recently on the electronic cigarette and found and bought one of these to try. I will let you know how i get on long term but i must say (very early doors i know) that so far it has helped and is the most effective NRT i have ever encountered.
No Im Genuine trying and not selling anything
although i did read that guys articles because i was interested to see if many others had used this method of NRT and if they had any positive results. I guess only time will tell.
Good luck Steve
as well as using the electronic ciggie, why not have a really good read at some of the sites on peoples signatures. Whyquit and woofmang are great places to start.
Who knows, you may even get over the need for the electronic ciggie.......
I am quiting today, only smoke about two cigs a night during the week so it should not be that hard at first but the weekend will be a killer, smoke about 20 a day over the weekend.
Welcome to the forum
By the time the weekend comes the nicotine will be well and truly out of your system, so its basically a case of sorting out the habitual side of the addiction.
Have a read of the following websites to help you change the way you think about smoking, its really the key to success.
woofmang.com/tales/index.shtml
By quitting smoking we tend to feel that we are sacrificing some great pleasure when in reality we are actually gaining a much better way of life.
All the best
Nic
Cheers dude, I was unaware how long the nicotine stays in your system.
As you say it is the habitual side of things that will get to me.
All I need to do is not light that cig, easy (I hope).
Yep, simple as that just don't smoke.
Its not like forgetting to do something in order to fail in your attempt to quit you have to consciously do something i.e. put a smoke in your mouth and light it! So as long as you don't do that you will succeed :D
All the best
Nic
Lorenzo...and the weekend!!
Good luck LorenzoC...as Nic said by time you get to the weekend your body will be free of nicotine BUT the psychological side of addicition is the one that's the beast...
but you already know the weekend may be difficult so...be prepared...
some people find it easier to avoid the high risk trigger situations... like drinking going out with mates etc... for the first week or two, others prefer to tackle the tricky stuff full on...
personally I found having a drink calmed the nerves but I didn't have a particular associate drinking with smoking...
plan ahead for the weekend which ever way suits you best...good luck...
