This time I will win

Been smoking since my teens I am now 39 have tired to quit on many occasions using various methods but today I bought my patches which for me worked best in the past.

Always seem to go back to the evil weed for the most silliest of reasons for example “How can I drive all that way without a fag?” “A day at the cricket will just not be the same without my weed” “My holiday will be ruined without a smoke” I could go on.

My reasons to stop now after all these years? Well I want to see my daughters grow up, hopefully graduate start on a decent career ladder and settle down and have children of their own, and besides I don’t want to be a slave anymore nor lie to my nearest and dearest about my smoking “I’ve had enough”

So with that out in the open, DD is tomorrow I want to come back on this site on Thursday and say “Yes I am now on day 2” and take it from there.

Good luck to all other quitters out there and although I am new here I think that we can help each and together we will succeed.

Well done. That decision is a hard one. To post it up for the world to see. To make a promise.

Good luck for tomorrow, people are here with advice if you need us - do not be afraid to admit you are struggling, everyone does sometimes.

While you are here, please have a good nose around and follow some of the links in posts and signatures - you will find a massive load of truly startling information.

Learning about what to expect (good and bad) will help you enormously, along with your chosen method.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Over the years I've tried to quit many times and failed, sometimes after quite a good time. The reason that this quit is working out for me is that I had a point where I had had enough! However I had also been there before!

In truth the best thing you can do to help with your quit is to read and educate yourself about how the addiction works and what to expect when coming off it. whyquit.com/ is a good place to start.

In the meantime, best of luck with tomorrow and if you need anything even just a rant just shout!

Cheers

Nic

Hi hairymarble

We've all used those stupid excuses, it's the addiction talking.

Very best of luck for tomorrow, you can do it - just take it one day at a time.

Educate yourself on addiction at whyquit.com and come in here for a whinge-binge/rant/chat if it gets too much. We've all been there!

Keep us up to date ;)

Welcome to the forum and huge GOOD LUCK for tomorow...

Like so many others I've tried a trillion times to quit and failed - this time I've used champix and this forum and countless books - Allen Carr's Easy Way has been real help - and all the web sites other people have mentioned...

I also found herbal remedies were a huge help to me - but I do admit to being a stress-head even on a good day:o And get ready to exercise, great for getting rid of a crave...

Just remember, take one day at a time, and that each day takes you further into the world free of addicition and an antisocial habit...

And remember your children...:D

look forward to following your quit... and helping if needed!!

Guys and gals in his initial post he said:-

While he may pop in I think he's got his plan in minds, so we may not see him reply until tomorrow!

But good luck and stay strong when ever you choose to post!

Thanks guys and girls for the words of support, had my last smoke with a pint of Guinness last night after work at about 17.45. The Guinness was lovely the fag was rottern.

All is well in the hairymarble corner, had no urges to smoke even thought a lot of the people here in work smoke out the back and the fact that one of our servers crashed this morning and brining it back online was a piece of cake where as before I would be out the back with the rest of the mugs puffing away & tearing my hair out.

It may sound strange but I feel (even thought it's not been 24 hours yet) that this forum, all you other posters and my will to quit I really think I can do it this time.

All the best

Andy

Well done,

The fact is that you can do it, and are doing it.

Loads of people have said to me over the years If I can you can, Well they are right we all can. All it takes is the determination to do so, and the realisation that smoking doesn't help anything. The forums can only encourage you to stay quit, and we'll do our best, you are the one that has to see it through but you can and will.

Keep up the good work.

What he said :D

Seriously, there is no one here that is any better at this than you are. Anyone can quit smoking. You just have to really want to do it, and have the mental attitude that whatever happens - whatever life throws at you - is not going to be helped by a cigarette. Once that truth (for it is the truth) is ingrained, there is no point in spending all that money to kill yourself for no gains.

Therefore, don't smoke - easy*

*not really, but the principle is easy and it does honestly get easier.

hi Andy, great its going so well for you...

at risk of being boring, have to second what the others have said in that the most important thing to remember when things get tough is a cigarette never solved any problems or made anything better, it just causes others......

stay strong, we're all here to help...

cheers guys and girls coming up to the 24 hour mark now  But still going strong.

I must admit been easier then I thought (although I know I am not out of the woods yet) but one thing that has made it easier is this place and it's poster, so on that note "I thank you all" ;)
