I have been reading posts on this site for a couple of days, decided to leave a previous site for this one, other one wasnt really working for me.

Im on my 4th day without a cigarette and am in turmoil to put it bluntly.I am using the patch, but i am still constantly thinking about smoking, not sleeping, shaking etc, etc, im sure you have heard it all before.

I know if i find the right place to post, it will help me, i could really do with some good friends and some good advice.

I want to be smokefree, but im struggling.

Hi and welcome.

Have you tried taking the patch off at night? Even the 24 hour ones can be taken off at night and it may help your sleeping if you do.

And a good nights sleep will help with the rest.

As for the cravings, just remember that a cigarette will not change the situation and if you're determined to quit it will make you feel even more down to give in. The first week is by far the worst, so please don't give in - it really is worth it!

The craving will go whether you smoke or not - thats something I say to myself everytime I get one. (It's not often now, after 2 weeks).

It does get easier, I promise. Hang on in there, day 4 is one hell of an acheivment.

Hello Laurasmum

welcome to the forum.#

This is a great place for help and support.

i would just reiterate what the others have said, stick with it and it will get easier.

oh and read read read on the various sites which people have in their signatures. Some are anti NRT BUT they still have some great advice.

And finally its the custom when a woman joins the forum that she posts a picture of herself (preferably a swimwear shot):D

Hi again everyone, thanks so much for your replies, it means heaps.

I do take my patch off at night, it just feels that my mind buzzes for hours and last night it was gone 3 am before i finally drifted off.Its not helping my moods much i can tell you!

I am on water and celery today, it is helping and i have done lots of reading too, im know im not the only one and am being a bit of a drama queen, but it is so hard.

As for the swimwear shot? Im just over 40 and if i sent you a pic, you would end up in the priory!:D

thanks again, i certainly intend to stick around

Nice try John!

Don't listen to the resident perv, Laurasmom, he's harmless really ;)

Although, he is quite good ( ok very good:rolleyes: ) when it comes to advice on stopping smoking :)

If you're having a bad time, post it up - no one has a lot of good days in a row while doing this. It's life changing stuff, it has to be a little dramatic!

If we all think you're doing really well and finding it easy, how can we help?

On the other hand, if you really are having a good day, post that too - it helps to inspire those of us that are having a bad day.

Good luck, keep going :)

You can do it, you are doing it.

Every time you choose not to smoke, you are doing it.

It sounds easy, and I know it's not, but all you have to do is keep choosing not to smoke.

It will get easier, I promise - but it will take a little while. You have to tough out the first week or so, and after that it becomes easier... and when it does get easier, you will forget about the really hard bit.

If you smoke at this point, you will have to go through the hard bit again - or smoke for life. Personally, I don't want to do either of those - how about you?

Sorry if this seems a little harsh - but it's a hard thing we are all doing.

Hi Lindasmum

I'm a bit late in on this thread, but I'd like to say that at 4 days you've already achieved a great deal.

Scream and shout if you need to, take it day by day or hour by hour if you need, but don't smoke!

It gets easier, honestly it does and don't let others drive you back to it or you've 4 days of angst wasted!

All the best

Nic

Hi Helen, so we are both at the same point? I dont suppose you would consider me for a (moaning) quit buddy? Well done on your 4 days!
