How do you stop a 16 year old from smoking...

My 16 year old step daughter is now puffing away like the best of them.

This is despite my wife and I relaying the difficulties involved with stopping once entrapped.

She witnessed first hand the struggle my wife and I had stopping.

This has not perturbed her in the least. I wish i could explain to her exactly how difficult it will become if she does not stop now.

Arghhh........

The best thing or should I say the only thing you really can do is to educate your daughter on the bad things that will happen .Forcing this info as most of us know will not work. When I was 16 my parents told me all the time not to smoke but I did anyway and they both did not smoke.

Therein lies the problem with quitting. At the end of the day the only person that can stop is the smoker, and from the sounds of it she doesn't want to.

All you can do is point her in the direction of the information, and hope she reads it, and makes the decision for herself.

Best of luck

Nic

I,m in the same boat as you my 17 year old daughter has not long informed me that she has been smoking for the past few years, apart from educating which i do often and not letting her smoke in the house there,s not a lot you can do.I wanted to quit for myself but after she told me she was smoking made me realise i had to give up even more shaz

what a shame

hi

a very tricky situation...........

i really dont think there is much you can do apart from all the advice from previous posts.

thinking back to when i was 16 and smoking, the only thing that put me off was the money factor, u could try that angle. i say to my children " if you want to be still living with me when ur 40, its ok by me" That makes them think if nothing else. Try not to let them know it is bothering you, as that tends to make them do it all the more.

anyway good luck and let us know how it goes

by the way, my sons used to smoke weed, i let them have a plant in his bedroom, the novelty wore off, he doesn't smoke it anymore
