The cost of smoking should not be measured by monetary value statistics tell us the real cost.

There were nearly 6 million smoking deaths in the year 2006, with the majority -- roughly one third -- due to heart disease and stroke. Lung cancer killed 950,000 smokers, and 1.5 million more died of other lung diseases.

I wish there were stats for people who quit smoking that actually lived longer than people that smoked and died smoking.

Now if the 47 after your name on your sig is your age, then that will make you 62 still Young enough to enjoy a long and healthy retirement.:D

I'll be 63 if i make it that far.

It's really amazing how fast time flies once it's not divided up into the half-hours I used to allow myself between smokes.

Thanks John...I'm just keeping it in the day at the moment. I'm not looking too far into the future. Who knows, maybe that will help.

You stick with that way of thinking Carl. I never related the 'one day at a time' mind set to stopping smoking although it has kept me sober for 20 years. It just shows how we separate addictions from each other when they're exactly the same when it comes to kicking them. I do, however adopt it now and fully accept my addictive nature and so long as I tell myself each morning that I will not smoke today, no long term targets are set, so no major pressure is put upon me. Good luck to all!!

actually apologies for wallowing in a small puddle of self pity there.......in fairness i was the stupid one, not the cigarettes!.......but then i was 12! the frightening thing is when i started, nobody tried to stop me, my parents didn't tell me off and allowed me to smoke in the house, the school weren't really that fussed as long as you weren't seen smoking out and about whilst in uniform (i.e. wear a coat)....still my fault all this but if my son did come home smelling of smoke i would hit the roof!!!!!!!!!

Every little helps ..... :)

Somewhere I read (probably Joel's site) that day 1 is the most important day - you can't have day 100 without day 1. Day 1 is the hardest day, and the first day. The rest simply follow day 1. Day 2,3,4,5,6 and all the other days matter, and matter a lot - but couldn't happen without day 1.

I Stopped smoking using champix initially but after 4 wks on them (3 wks not smoking) I was turning into a psycho so stopped them so now feel like I only stopped smoking a few days ago so really stuggling now as gone cold turkey. It's been nice to read through this thread and realise I am not alone and that it is possible.

The best advice I can give you is to read, read and read some more - it sounds like you need to do what we call "re education" and "getting you head on straight".

Have a look at whyquit.com and woofmang.com (read the "tales") and of course this site for some great information.

You are not suffering physical withdrawels - you are already nicotine free for long enough, these are the more tricky psycological ones. They can be beaten, but you need to have the right frame of mind. I find the woofmang tales amazing for that.

Hi there First of all welcome to the forum.

You no longer have nicotine in your body so the physical addiction is passed, however that is not the big part of it. The addiction to nicotine is IMHO only 5% of it the remaining 95% is psychological. In order to sort it you need to re-educate yourself about smoking check out these sites to help with that

whyquit.com/

woofmang.com/tales/index.shtml

quitsmokingonline.com/

and keep us posted. Most of all we are all in the same boat so we know what you are going through.

I've no idea what you're talking about. My post was intended to encourage...clearly. This is the second time I've been warned inappropriately and in relation the this member.

For all I know you may well be this member. In fact isn't it strange that you haven't been around here (as a moderator)in ages and then, hey presto, when you feel this member is attacked (God knows why) you're here almost immediately. Could be coincidence of course or you could be around much more regularly as somebody else. Very likely I'd say given the way you were recruited initially. That you Flippy...hmmmm?

Anyway, it's getting a bit tiresome to be honest. You have no credibility at all as far as I'm concerned. Why don't you find something else to occupy you in the evenings..flower arranging or bingo maybe...something you could be good at.

Carl

I would like to remind you again that this forum is here as an aid to quitting smoking, please use the forum to do so and allow others the same privilege with out this constant baiting, flaming and innuendo's to certain members including the moderators

Many thanks

Please, spare the silly speeches. You drove off Phil, banned completely innocent members for reasons you weren't even sure of yourself and been as blatantly biased as the other one. You also seem to have a pathological need to "get involved" when the situation was being dealt with by someone else. What's that all about? Makes you look like a total idiot. Then again what do you expect when you go recruiting from that end of the market.

Ban me if you like...won't do you a toss of good. Bad behaviour is bad behaviour..I'll call it when I see it.

Carl

I do not want to have to close this thread due to your behavior as it has been going for some time and has been a positive and useful thread for many, I will ask you to leave this argument and take the moderators word as final or take your grievance up with NSD

Many thanks
