My name is Azelene, I am 35 have been smoking for 20 years, and stopped
29 June 2008.
I use Champix and nicorette gum: But want to go off the gum in the next week or 2. "Do not want to get hooked on the gum."
The Champix works wonders for me, and I will finish the course like they say in the pamphlet.
I get cravings that is why I use the gum, but started sucking on a ice block, to try to skip taking a gum.
I am married, and have a 19 month old baby girl. My husband still smokes. But he is reading "Easy way to stop smoking by Allen Carr's." He say's he really loves the book, and it all make sense. But I am not going to pressure him when he is done with the book. He must decide on his own date. And then I will support him al the way.
I hate going throw the cravings, dont have any other problems, but the cravings is bad. I also started getting very realistic dreams the last couple of nights. doesn't bother me to much, because the dreams, even if it is nightmares, are better then smoking.
I take live now day to day, and do not thing about tomorrow. One step at a time.
Well, nice to meet all of you, thanks for taking the time to read my mail. And lots of smoke free day's to come for all of you.
Regards
Azelene

What a lovely post, well done and congratulations with your quit.
I used nicotine gum for two months and was fearful that i too would become addicted but they really helped and when it was time for me to come off them I did, had a week of mild cravings but then it has been fine with no cravings just sometimes a thought of what I used to do but nothing serious.
You have to do what is right for you and it sounds like you are at the moment.
Keep posting and letting us know how you are getting on, must go now and get my girls ready for school.
You've already taken the biggest step by making the decision to go "smoke free". You'll find that we have quit using many different methods and it's what works for you that is important!! Just think of the benefits for your baby growing up without a smoking Mum! It would be nice if your husband could join you but as you so rightly say it has to be his decision. I know that a lot of people of this forum would recommend Allen Carr, so perhaps he will choose to quit once he's read the book.
You'll get all the help and support you want here - just keep posting - even when you're climbing up the wall and screaming someone will be here to help
As well as relying on the meds, read as much as you can about your quit too. Education should definately help to keep you strong and focussed on the quit.
Hopefully your hubby will stop when he has read the Allen carr book. There are a few of us on here who stopped that way so maybe your husband can join too and we can help him too.
Is it possible that you came off the Champix too soon, I thought that the course was supposed to last for three months and in extreme circumstances 6 months, I read AC when I was way into my quit and found dit helped me immensly, just hang on in there, you have done the hard bit, please don't even think of going back.
Please read my mail again, I do not have problems with the Champix, I am still on it, and it works wonderfull. Wanted to know if it is ok to take the nico gum with it.
hi
Sorry to read that you are having problems.
Wanted to know if it is ok to take the nico gum with it.
as myself and OnemoreTry said, we wondered why you were using the nic gum with the champix, wouldnt have thought you would need it but i would ask your quit nurse or doc for advice.
As far as I know you should not take any NRT with Champix. It is stipulated in the actual leaflet. Which day after first starting the tablets did you actually quit?
As Champix acts a nicotine inhibitor, taking any nicotine would be a little pointless? Let us know.
