HELP I am on Champix day 9 will be Tuesday and I have decided then will be quit day.I AM REALLY WORRIED I will not be able to do this as I have not been able to cut down as they wanted me to.I dont feel any diffrent than before I went on them.Anyone out there able to give me any advice. This is my 5th go at quitting so dont want to fail again. My counciller said that I would not want to smoke with Champix.I have manage to cut down to 10 a day over the last 6mths mainly by only smoking 1/2 at a time.So perhaps thats cheating.Hope someone will have time to reply. From Chrissie.

Hi Chrissie, don't be afraid, take that ":(" sad smilie away from your post! :)

I didn't quit with Champix but lots of people here did and I've read so many of their successful stories, be confident! You are going to make it too ;) As far as weaning off the pills don't even worry about that now, anyway it's just a matter of not stopping abruptly but follow your doc's indications instead.

Looking forward to your posts! xx

Hi Chrissie

I guess you'll be feeling pretty nervous by now with your quit day only 24 hrs away. There's this huge fearfulness that builds up into monstrous proportions about trying to quit something that has you so terribly addicted. When you can't handle the fear, you start negotiating with yourself........cutting down; smoking only half.........if you go down this route you're making a pact with that monster.

That's what nic does. If you weren't afraid to give up, you'd have done it ages ago and not thrown away all that cash on a such a terrible addiction.

Now to the facts....... There's absolutely no need to have fear. There's no monster out there. It's just a decision you need to make to stop. Once you've made that decision you can move forward and rid yourself of that evil smelling weed.

You can help yourself by preparing some ideas to make the "moving forward" easier for yourself.......like things to do when you're having a hard time: jobs, chores, treats, snacks, walks, places to visit, etc.

Things that have helped me range from time-consuming menu plans, lopping a very long hedge, digging in the garden, candle-lit baths, playing sudoku to tidying the loft!

Good luck - hope to see you here again when your decision is made.

Hi Chrissie and welcome to the best place to be. As usual I'm bringing up the rear here but just want to support what others have said and add that Champix has been the only aid to really help me after amny years of trying to quit so, chances are that it's going to help you too. Need to give it a chance and need to remember that it isn't magic, you still need some determination - which you certainly have in good measure:D Good luck, keep strong and keep talking:)

Feeling much happier

Thanks all of you for your replies they have really helped and Im going to try really hard tomorrow. Wish me luck.I will keep you posted.

I started smoking at 11yrs of and on till I was 16yrs from then 20 a day until I was 22 gave up for 4yrs got divorced and started again.Smoked 20 a day until 6mths ago cut down to 10.My breathing is bad due to a hole in my heart valve.Smoking not helping. What really gave me the final kick up the butt was when I heard a customer of mine had lung cancer have known her some years now.She had to tell her 13yr old son she did not have long to live.I do not want to have to do the same with my 12yr old and have him say why didnt I stop smoking!!! Puts a whole different light on it doesnt it.Sorry to ramble on but it helps seeing it all in black and white. Thanks again to you all.xxx Chrissie

Hi Chrissie, I am on Champix too. I started taking it on December 18th, and made my quit day 01/01/08, making it a 14 day period before the quit. I smoked between 40 and 50 a day for 47 years - a long ,long time! You CAN do this Chrissie, but it still does require a degree of determination and will power, but i must admit that the withrawal symptoms have not been anywhere near as bad as l feared. :) Now, after 14 days of not smoking, l go for long periods without even thinking about it. My problem is, l sometimes FORGET that l don't smoke any more. :D Come on here often in the early days, you will get loads of help and encouragement. :D
