Normality Again Please

Hi peeps,

Into week 11 now (how cool am I!!!) Have to say it’s been an up and down ride to get this far, but still hanging in. Anyways – on the whole throughout this journey I have felt proud of myself, but also aware that I didn’t feel quite right and was detaching myself from my family unintentionally – you know what I mean, I just didn’t feel like me anymore and felt lost (I know it’s normal). I was just hoping that this feeling would lessen with time, but so far it hasn’t. Now I am worried that a lot of my friends and family keep saying that I seem distant and remote. Even my partner (who doesn’t smoke), says he is so proud of me, but that most of the time he feels like he is treading on eggs all the time and just wants to get back to a “normal” life.

I feel I am driving everyone away, even the kids, and I hate it. I guess I just need reassurance that it’s not always going to feel like this, and I will again be the “normal me” – whatever that is

Sorry to waffle on so.

Never apoligize for talking your feelings through. We are here to listen :D

I read along the way somewhere that it takes 8-12 weeks to get back to normal after we quit smoking, sooooo I hope this gives you a bit of hope as it gave me quite a bit :)

Most withdrawal symptoms peak 48 hours after you quit and are completely gone in six months. I know it sounds like forever away but really it's not and we can get there and be normal again! FINALLY!

11 Weeks - WELLLLL DONE!!!!

well done Ana, for getting so far, 11 weeks is great. I am just a little ahead of you so I can tell you that it's about now that you'll probably start to feel your old self again.. of course we're all different but that's how it was for me anyway. :)

Still not 100% Me, but much closer than it was! Best of luck.;)

Thanks guy's that was just the reassurance I needed!

I know I am on a journey, and along the way I have to find the "real me", just not sure I or anyone I know likes that person yet!!

I'm struggling a little and although I'm still smoke free for 12 weeks in 3 days time, I'd like to hear from others. I used Champix to stop and after 35 years of smoking (I'm aged 48) thought I'd cracked it. Every day I regularly get urges like.... ok, the game is over...time to smoke. I've put on over a stone in weight in 3 months.

Last night I went to the pub and spoke to a smoker. She said she'd previously stopped for 11 months but because of her weight gain and constant feeling of depression she started back smoking. I feel depressed everyday. I couldn't put up with years feeling like I do. My doctor says it takes a month for every year of smoking to recover. So it looks like 35 months of total depression, weight gain etc..... Somebody please give me some good news. I'm struggling to cope at the moment. I was sure approaching 12 weeks I'd got it cracked. Just when does it get easier.

Its awful dealing with this everyday.

You're right Bob, sometimes it's awful everyday.. sometimes there are moments when I think, sod it.. then I remember what it was like to stink, the panic when I might have run out of tobacco or my trusty old Zippo was out of fuel, the feeling of being enslaved by something... being totally dependent and never admitting that to anyone.. insisting I really didn't want to give up blah blah blah..

Hey, Bob, you still there or have you switched off? Any of that make sense to you?

Bob.. stay with it.. it's worth it. :)
