Hi all. New here so thought I'd say hi. I'm on day 4 now....after 9 years of smoking, and my god this is tough! I feel really down, which is mad, and I can't seem to get motivated to do much. I'm a graphic design student and I haven't been able to draw anything for ages. It's very strange indeed. I wouldn't really call it depression as such, I'm still smiling, just....its all too odd! Anybody else had this?

This looks like a really helpful friendly forum, hurrah for you lot

Hiya Sugar welcome to the forum, we are one big family of quitters here so you have come to the right place!!

your feelings are normal, myself and many others have felt this way, you have to think, its a big adjustment your body is going through at the moment withdrawing from the nicotine and your brain is also trying to break a habit!, so its no wonder youre a bit up in the air and not feeling yourself.

for the first few weeks of my quit I did nothing, absolutely nothing, because I just didnt have the energy to do anything!

getting out of bed and getting to work was a struggle!

It will soon pass, just remind yourself that these withdrawal symptoms wont last forever and soon you'll be bursting with energy and feeling fantastic! :)

Stay strong, charlene. :D

Thanks Charlene, nice to know I'm not alone! I spent 3 hours in bed this morning, wide awake but just not wanting to get up. Allen Carr said this would be easy!

Im afraid I havent met an ex-smoker yet who said it was easy, but all of them have said its the best thing they ever did.:D

You'll be fine Sugar, just take it day by day, when I felt really lethargic I made a promise to myself that in the morning I would loll around and be lazy, but at dinnertime I would grab some lunch and take myself out somewhere, anywhere, even if you just have a walk to the shops for a magazine or something to blow away the cobwebs, then at teatime when I was lagging again I would have some tea and a nice long bath and come and bum about on here for a bit chatting to people.

Eventually and without me really noticing and it took about a month I was feeling a bit more myself again and started getting my energy back.

It is awful at the time that really lethergic feeling and the jelly legs that you get, but you will soon get over it.;)

Stay strong!! you can do it!! charlene. :D

Welcome Sugar...

Stone Roses fan?

I hear you on the creative motivation... I am an Architect I spent alot of time staring at my cumpuer unable to do anything. I am also renvoting a house and have been having trouble making decicions or doing anything focused.... You are definitley in the worst of it now... It will get better. After 4 weeks I feel the haze lifting and more ready to get things done again.

I think its that your brain is wired to get that jolt of nictotine when you need to make a decision of start a process... I found that I would feel OK until I had to think about something and then my mind would just fog over. It is starting to clear up now though.

hope this helps... good luck and stick with it.

Glad I'm not alone on the creative block thing. nightmare time for it to happen though, its new brief time at college and I just can't see to get into it. At least it'll come back, but a month;...dear lord.

Anyway thanks for all your kind words and responses guys. You're a bunch of lovelies, we'll do this!
