This is my first day...

it is not my first effort. My most recent effort was several years ago.

I have smoked 1 to 1 1/2 packs a day (average) for the past 20 years (almost exactly). I am tired of worrying about my health, afraid of developing a serious smoking-related health issue that will, basically, destroy my life.

Over the weekend I saw seniors (people in the 60s/70s/80s) out walking all over town, and I thought, if I keep on smoking, I won't be one of them; actually, I may not make it to that age at all. So, this is it. I've had it, folks, I am going to make every effort I can to whup this habit, once and for all.

I am using 2 mg. lozenges to help me out, and if I make it, I will reward myself by getting my car totally and thoroughly detailed and cleaned out, to get rid of all the ashes and smell and stuff.

I've noticed that this is a UK-based site. I'm in Southern California, and am glad I found you all.

Thank you all so much for your warm welcome. I appreciate it, and will post here as often as possible. You all have made me feel very welcome.

So far, I've skipped 4 cigarettes that I would have had so far today. I did use one of my break times to go for a walk in the parking lot, rather than for smoking, like I usually do.

When I started downstairs to head outside, I patted my pants' pocket to be sure I had my lighter. When I didn't feel it, I thought, oh that's right, that's in the past, I won't need that any more. :)

Welcome Tish. First couple days can be rough just keep it in mind that it is all nicotine playing with your mind and that you dont really NEED a cigarette even if you feel like your head will explode... it wont...really:D

So far, so good. Went to get in the car at lunch time and opened the compartment where I kept my cigarettes, and thankfully I had the foresight to toss them out last night, so there weren't any. If they had been in there, I probably would have lit up without even thinking about it.

I've still got to get through this evening.

Thanks Buffy! You're up late, it must be 10:30 where you are, right?

I'm keeping my mind on being able to cross this day off my calendar, then tomorrow, then the next... Am going through and trying to read some of the older posts.

Oh, Kazza, that's right, Britain is 1 week ahead of us in that regard. We put ours back (I think... fall back, spring forward... yep, back :p) next weekend!

So far so good, I know it will get more difficult. Thanks to everyone who stopped in to talk to me.

Am having a craving and am going to head downstairs for a walk around the parking lot, and some rubberband snapping.

Reading through the posts here will lose you some time too ;)

This is so true kazza about this forum being like one big family, I think that is what makes this easier for me, the fact that you grow close to people here because they understand what u are going through, its fantastic.

I think this is a truly unique forum because of that fact.
