It only took 1 smoke and I'm back to square one!

Hi, I feel embarrased to post that I started smoking after giving up back in Feb 07. I previously gave up using champix and despite a few low moments I was so proud I did it. Unfortunately a couple of weeks ago I received some really bad news and for the first couple of days I fought the erge to smoke, but I eventually gave in. It tasted really awful but stupidly I ended up smoking the pack of 10 over the following couple of days :(

Anyway I am feeling much better in myself now and decided before I get back to seriously smoking 20 a day that I would quit again. The problem is that last time I did it with the help of Champix and this forum. Now I've only got this forum to use. I always found everyone really supportive so I'm hoping that with your help I'll be able to do it again :)

Hi Mumshack.

You made a mistake and you smoked. No big deal. We've ALL done it. Don't beat yourself up about it sweetie. The main thing is that you've decided to get right

back on the horse and quit again. I,ve lost count of the number of times I tried to quit in the 25yrs of smoking. I think we can learn something from each quit which makes us stronger so we don'tmake the same mistake again. You know now that stress is a major factor for you going back to smoking so try some new ways to try and relax more--anything from yoga to good old deep breathing!!!

I'm taking champix at the moment but there are loads of others on here that use patches or go cold turkey. post often . I'm sure you can do this. It's taken me 25yrs but I got there in the end!

Sorry to hear that Mumshack.

But you are doing the right thing by trying to quit again.

I once had a 5 month 16 day quit I screwed up myself. So don't feel like you are all alone in your long term quit messup. At least you are recognizing your mistake after a few days and trying to correct it. It has taken me 8 years to try again after mine!

Don't give up quitting, You will just stink again, have nasty breath, and go back to being the social misfit who stands outside smoking while everyone else is having fun inside. (ok I went off on a tangent there, those are some of my reasons for quitting smoking, but you get the point haha ;) )

Good Luck and join in on the discussions!

You're not back square one. Just look at it as a bump in the road, you hit it, now you're by it and you don't look back.

You are not starting all over again, you have accompkished a lot and you can build off that.

Hi Mumshack,

Youve come so very very far and although champix does help to break the hold of cigs I dont think theve got hold of you properly again yet??? I'm grateful to champix for helping but it was ME that did all the hard work not the pills. After 10 cigs the habit hasnt had chance to reform. Good luck in getting straight back on with a wonderful smoke free life.
