Hi Joe,

Welcome to the board and congratulations on getting started on your quit. Getting to the point where you actually dive in and get your quit underway is a big obstacle to overcome so you've already achieved a lot. I quit 13 weeks ago and I'm very glad that I did.

Best tip is to come on this board every day. You'll get lots of support and encouragement and it will help to keep you focused.

Also have a look at this information on the link between withdrawal symptoms and low blood sugar. I certainly found it helpful at the start of my quit and I think managing your blood sugar levels can really reduce the incidence of withdrawal symptoms.

In the very early stages you'll probably have to ensure that every moment of your day is filled with activity to take your mind off smoking, even if it's something as boring tidying the broom cupboard or painting the shed.

Finally every day take 5 minutes out to think about how well you're doing and what you've achieved and why you decided to quit.

You'll be amazed how quickly you realise that it is actually possible for your body to adapt to functioning perfectly well without cigarettes after years of knowing nothing else.

Good luck

Dicky

Well done Joe - you have done brilliantly!!

It's always taking one day at a time and within that day one step at a time. NS4M has wonderful stats about smokey joes and apparently each craving lasts for approx 3-5mins so in that time you need to have something to hand to help -like some m and ms or something yummy or something for the hands. Distraction is totally the key.

Once you start each day is one you hopefully never have to do again so tomorrow you can think I will never have to do day 1 again!! Fabtastic!!

Have a great day tomorrow. (or later today cos i am late to bed)

Hi Joe and welcome,

Congrats on your decisison to quit. Dicky had some good advice about comming here everyday. Don't just read, get involved. There are some wonderful and supportive people here. I drink lots and lots of water with lemon in it. The lemon seems to make a big difference.

Keep yourself busy and drink lots of water. Water hot or cold with lemon in it can help with cravings as well as eating celery very slowly until it turns to pulp in your mouth before swallowing it. Remember that cravings only last 3-5 minutes so keep yourself doing something for those few minutes and it WILL pass ;) The nicotine is outta your body in 72 hours so stay smoke free and let your body feel amazing :) You can do it!
