I'm quitting because...

I stopped smoking because:

[*]I'm sick of smelling and tasting like an ashtray

[*]I'm sick of worrying about what it's doing to me and how ill I might get

[*]I'm sick of pretending to lots of other people (including all of my family) that I don't smoke

[*]I'm sick of my bf being disappointed with me because I know how much he hates it

[*]I'm sick of wasting money on something so stupid

[*]I'm sick of feeling like a failure because I don't feel in control of this aspect of my life

[*]I'm sick of relying on cigarettes when I'm stressed as they do nothing to help and actually stop me dealing with problems

I'm on day 6 now but I know that on previous quits it's been around the two to three week mark that I've struggled. So now if I do get tempted I can come back and read this and think about all the reasons I'm not going to do this anymore.

Thanks both.

I know (from bitter experience) what I'm like with this. I start off with loads of determination and clear reasons why I'm going to stop, then a few days/weeks later I hit a rough patch and can't for the life of me remember the reasons I stopped in the first place.

So now I have no excuse as you can all remind me where they are!

Hi Hbav, a very affective post.. it's funny but it doesn't seem to matter who we are, I mean age, gender, location, we all seem to be thinking the same things. Maybe we express them differently, have a different order of priority, but our reasons for quitting are based on the same ideas. I think you have expressed those ideas so clearly and I too will be popping back here to remind myself of what I think, through what you think! ta and well done, keep going!:D

Good Girl !!

Great post H - it will remind me of the reasons why I don't smoke too !! (although I will replace bf in line 4 with 'er indoors)

You're in charge of whether you smoke or not. Just don't give in to it !

You're clearly much much stronger than that. Have you thought about printing out and laminating your reasons (I've done that before although my reasons were slightly different!). That way you can keep them in your purse and every time you fancy a fag, you just read through them like a mantra.

Works for me!

Well done and thanks for sharing !!
