<!---day 4--------------------------------------------------------------->

Hey Guys and Gals,

Just reporting in for day 4 of my Cold Turkey Sagaâ„¢ (lol)

Feeling pretty good still, really proud of myself. Starting to see the effects of quitting on my teeth, hands, face and general energy which is really encouraging.

So pleased I found this forum, there are many success stories here - I think it's fantastic that people who have quit long ago are still here to support people starting out a smoke free life!

Please feel free to add your progress to this thread too guys (lizzy & anyone else at the same stage of their Journey!)

Peace c(^_^)3*

I haven't had any strange dreams or anything yet - My body seems to be responding surprisingly well to the withdrawal so far. (Which is almost worrying as I think at some point it will become unbearably hard or something!)

I love obscure dreams and nightmares though, I usually wake up and try to paint them or something - I'm a bit weird like that!

well done on getting to day four going cold turkey!

i am day six today using gum.

i have found that yesterday was my hardest day, maybe because i was at work on shift with someone i used to smoke with, but i really thought the worst was over now, when yesterday was worse than day1, has anyone else experienced something similar or is it just me?

It's just so great to see so many people joining in and quitting :D it is incredible what a network of support can do, considering we don't know each other from adam and live in all these different parts of the world! I for one have no idea how else I could of pulled up all this support without the forum x x

Well done on day 4 :D

Cold turkey too

hello again,

I know just where you are coming from pk32 as I had the day you are having yesterday. You just have to keep busy even if it means just doing some cleaning (yuck) but at least you wont be thinking about smoking, maybe talk to someone about how you are feeling and get support, but try not to sit and think about your cravings, and remember physical cravings only last for three to four mins so try and sit it out!

Your doing great and have come this far, You can beat this!! Make it through today and tomorow will be better.

Glad to see you are still going strong, me too.

Definitely wanted one this morning, and when I came out of work a little while ago, but feel ok now this site defo helps.

I feel different today, maybe like you the dreaded nico is leaving the body onwards and upwards lets keep it up.

Sorry guys about the text I think I may have hit a wrong button on the puter

Hey Lizzy' great to see hear you are still powering on cold turkey style!

End of day 4 and I feel fantastic. I've been "pulling through" 2 litres of water each day (by consuing 2 litres of water on the commute home from work over the course of an hour, then going to the gym and sweating it out).

I think my body is detoxing pretty fast/well!

Tomorow is day 5, back to the gym again and book myself a session in the health spa as well.

The idea of smoking is becoming more and more rediculous to me.

At work they have issued everyone these small tins for putting your cigarette ends in, as you can now be prosecuted for dumping them on the street. That actually amazed me! Can you imagine what your hands and pockets are going to smell like if you carry around a load of cigarette ends all day?!?!?!

REVOLTING!

I cannot believe people are using them!

nsd_user663_1931 profile image
nsd_user663_1931

Well done all of you.

Keep going , keep stronge, nearly a week.

Mannion- Those tins are going to make them smell yuk:D and we will all be smelling lovely.:)

Ah yes ridicule the smokers until they feel so pathetic they quit!

Seems mean but it's not just themselves they're harming hehehe £50 on the spot fine for dumping a butt i think?

So glad i am not arguing on that side of the fence, i would be running out of reasons!

keep it up guys ~Buffy x

I was working my first shift in the pub last night since the ban came in and the main conversation coming from the smokers was that they reckon the government will fold and let smoking back in pubs eventually. I have always been in favour of the ban as it gave me the incentive to quit smoking again.

I did argue with them that 20 years ago you could smoke on trains, buses, in cinemas which you can't now. People don't moan about that anymore. They've just got used to it. So get used to it. 'It's not the same' they said.

Just except it!

<!-------------------------------Day 5--------------------------->

Woot, day 5 is here.

I have been awake for 3 hours and can honestly say I have not wanted a cigarette for a single moment so far!

I'm loving the fact I can taste food better now (and I have an excuse to eat lots of it! :p )

Not sure a good sense of smell is really an advantage when I have an hour-long commute on the London Underground, but hey-ho, swings and roundabouts hehehe!

Going to treat myself to a new CD to work to at lunchtime!

Happy days!

Nothin' but love c(^_^)3*

Good morning all.

Wo-hoooo - I've upgraded to the Cold Turkey day 4 - 7 thread...happy days.

Firstly, well done everybody else.

Last night was a bit of a nightmare - but I purposely made it that way by having a few drinks. I've got to get 'find' my new self - there's no point shying away.

Headaches / dizzyness appear to be on their way out. Although I still struggled to get a consistent sleep last night...

I slightly injured my knee playing football on Monday evening, so I'm a bit frustrated I can't max-out at the gym this week. Bad timing! Still, I plan a light workout tonight and a good steam room session.

Still - all in all - I do feel better, both in and about myself.

Have a good day everyone. :)

Lol bless them >_< so is not going to happen  as you say people need to accept change! it happens regardless so best go with it best you can! It is for good reason!

Not sure a good sense of smell is really an advantage when I have an hour-long commute on the London Underground, but hey-ho, swings and roundabouts hehehe!

Thats what i really miss about working *Sigh* that Friday afternoon on hot packed Circle line train, with the sweet odor of stale beer and BO, ahhhh lovely, being pushed up against the sweatiest bloke with his arm up in the air holding the ceiling rail, my nose but an inch from his sweaty pit!

Never again! till next time

Wo-hoooo - I've upgraded to the Cold Turkey day 4 - 7 thread...happy days

Well done!!!!!

Thats the trickiest day out of the way :p Glad you got through the drinks without smoking, it is good to associate alcohol with not smoking now. We can't give it all up!

It's the people who have been smoking for years and years that enjoy to smoke, have never tried giving up and never intend to no matter what effects they see in the news or in magazines. They are the people you can't reason with about this smoking ban. Old school I guess. My dad is part of this circle and has been a heavy smoker for over 40 years. recently he has been having trouble with breathing and has been told by his doctor to stop smoking. Rather that give up, he had the daft idea that he'll start using snuff instead. Substituting one bad habit to another. Unbeleivable!

I don't preach to them as I know how annoying it can be from a non-smoker.

All I can do is let them know my opinion.

Theres nothing more aggrivating than a non-smoker telling you how you are killing yourself. Had 1 in my shop last week who called my young assistant 'a pathetic worm' because he smoked. There is just no need for it. I know the effects of smoking which I have been trying to give up on and off for 12 years. I don't want to die a slow and horrible death of a smoking related diesese. I want to be free!!:D

Good morning everyone, on day seven today, and I have to say although I feel better energy wise not smoking, and I actually managed to walk up the hill to work without getting breathless, I am still finding the cravings very frequent.

Yesterday didnt help at all as first of all at work (I work in a residential home) I had to take a mentally frail resident to the smoke lounge ,no-one was there to sit with her and no-one was around so I had to stay with her. It was hard and I thought to myself as well "why should I have to sit here when Ive given up for my health and breathe these fumes ,it doesnt seem fair!", so I think I will have a word with my manager later about that.

Then to top off the day, I was having a natter with my supervisor who has also given up and on week 14, when we got onto cravings and she said hers are as bad now as they were at the start!!!!! please say that is not true and it is just her who finds that, because I dont think I can go through this as bad as it is now for another god knows how many months.

nsd_user663_1989 profile image
nsd_user663_1989

You are absolutely right barney, and because we have all been smokers we know that nothing anyone says will make a sh***s bit of difference if the person doesnt want to give up smoking.

Everyone has the right to smoke or not smoke and no-one should verbally castrate a person because they choose to smoke its unacceptable and I can understand why that angered you.

nsd_user663_1978 profile image
nsd_user663_1978

I always find there is often a certain strange relationship between people who have quit a while and people who are just starting.

For example I said to a good friend "Did you find it hard, how did you quit"

And his reply was: "Yea it's really hard. Basically I just didn't put a cigarette in my mouth and light it".

Which is obviously a completely useless response to a serious question. He was also saying that after 6 months all he can think about is smoking still, which I know is nonsense.

Don't let it get you down, you need to focus on the positive effects of not smoking until the idea of smoking becomes rediculous!

nsd_user663_1704 profile image
nsd_user663_1704

Bloody do gooders  'pathetic worm' thats so constructive! he should go for PM

You do have to respect everyones arguments but i can't tolerate people who will only have it their way!

hehehe theres me with a keyfob saying 'theres two sides to every argument, mine and the wrong one'.

I was a barmaid for a few years when i was younger, such a blinding job.

Ramble, ramble, rhubarb, rhubarb soz i am twittering on again

Well done to another smoke free day!!!!

Charlene,

Her cravings feel bad to her because she's forgotten how bad it was at the start. Ask her, if she feels as bad as she did when she was a smoker, having run out of fags and unable to reach a shop, what would she of done with those half smoked butts in the ashtray in front of her?

And now, if theres an ashtray in front of her would she degrade herself as she would of before?

Does she really feel the same?? i don't think so.

Try not to take in what people say ahead of your time, take it day by day don't fret about how you'll feel in a months time you'll end up in a straight jacket! :D

I have graduated to day 4 by the cold turkey method. I will never tell anyone this is easy and congratulations to all who have got through day 1 and all those who have graduated beyond day 1.

The headaches and nausea are still there as well as the cravings. Perhaps I should have gone down the patches route but ordinary gum, a stress ball and will power are getting me through at the moment.

Other people smoking is not causing me a problem at the moment as at work I am going outside to a have a 5 minute break with smokers - but with me the reason for the break is not to smoke but to have a chat which takes the mind off smoking.

Hope to see you on day 5

nsd_user663_1989 profile image
nsd_user663_1989

he he he lol, ill ask her that buffy, youre right because i know I certainly used to smoke any decent butts in the ashtray and if there were no fags in the house, PANIC STATIONS!, but even only being on day seven I can look back and think "how discusting was i?"

Maybe like mannion said people who have been given up a while are just in a different place mentally than someone who has just started, or maybe, and this is just my own opinion, my supervisor is a sadistic moo who took pleasure in scaring me, he he.:p

I have decided I am not going to listen to or ask questions of anyone else that has given up because it just makes it harder listening to so called helpful advice. (except on this forum of course), that goes without saying.:D

Charlene,

I have given birth naturally 4 times and undergone a c~section. Do you think for one moment if i could really remember how much it hurt the first time i would of had another baby, then another and another etc!

hehehe mother natures dead clever, she takes away clear memories of pain and suffering so as we don't go mad!!

Sure your supervisor is confused and needs a little reminding herself, unless of course, sadism is in her nature! hehehehe

As a fellow day 4 hardcore cold-turkey quitter - I say stick with it.

Just remember: No matter how hard it is not to smoke, hold in there for 10 minutes maximum and it will pass.

Had a few beers with friends last night.......

Good news = I'm still going strong.

Bad news = One of my friends buckled and started smoking, in a fit of rage saying "I like smoking RAH RAH RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH". Quite a scene actually, sad to see her actually "Crack up" under the pressure.

The smell of the smoke actually made my throat go funny, as if I was going to be sick - Honestly!

Quite weird considering 8 days ago I smoked 20 cigarettes :o

just reading this, sorry i dont get it.

are you saying that old/frail/mental people are allowed to smoke in their residential homes which are obviously places of employment for many people?

how can this be right? all these places tend to have large gardens shouldnt they be MADE to go outside like the rest of the smokers in the country?

Hi sorry it took so long to get back to you muzzy just seen your post, in answer to your question, yes the residents are allowed to smoke in our old smoke room.

The powers that be (the council, as its a council ran home) say that its fair that they should be allowed to carry on smoking because its their home even though yes they have lovely sprawling gardens they could smoke in.

Staff, and even visitors however cannot smoke on the grounds any longer which means they get booted out to the street now which is not fair and looks awful.

The place reeks of fags and if you work on the emi unit like me its harder because you have to stay with them whilst they smoke although I have since refused to do this, because as a new non smoker as I think it is an infringement of my rights, because I did not give up smoking for my health to breathe in someone elses smoke against my will! aahh thats better sorry to rant but this particular topic does get me on my high horse.
