I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to expect. Or is it more of the same and just full speed ahead. I was told harsh cravings can come on out of the blue past the first month, any truth in that?

Hi Grinfire......me just over the first 4 weeks and onto lower dose of NRT patches. Anyway just from my experience I have found that its getting easier with every single day that passes.
Maybe its just getting over the initial habit of finding something else to do with your hands, or maybe even after 30 a day for the last 20 odd years you eventually discover that a life without fags is actually much better than with them!
But whatever is the case it does get easier and you will start to find more and more reasons not to go back on them!
I'm sorry to say but you do still get cravings (even on week 8)
It's my fault - I went to a party at the weekend and breathed in so much smoke I started to crave a fag of my own which I then "stole" from someone but shared it with another ex-smoker (of 5 months). At the time I didn't care because I was tipsy. The next morning I felt ridiculous and angry but I couldn't tell my husband because I was ashamed. I then felt that I had gone back to day one because I wanted to smoke and have felt terrible since then, it is now wednesday!
The moral of this thread is.....DO NOT EVEN HAVE ONE, IT IS NOT WORTH IT, believe me.
Hey Ruby just remember 1 swallow doesnt make a summer. You know why you had the fag and now you know what to do to save yourself from getting in same position.......I bet you felt a bit dizzy!
Anyway well done for getting so far and Im sure by what you said, you wont have another fag....just not worth the guilt!
Good job I've got you guys to tell about things because I can't tell hubby because he will be very cross. Mind you, one of my reasons for giving up was for my hubby and kids to be proud and none of them even mention it now!! Still, it was the best thing to do for me anyway. I will still think of myself in week 8 even though I was naughty! Will be 2 months next week!! I have got to 3 months before so I am not patting myself until I have reached the 3 month mark and gone over it - will this forum carry on even though No Smoking Day is almost over? does anyone know??
rubymiller will this forum carry on even though No Smoking Day is almost over? does anyone know??Boudee I will still be here Me too
Doing real well Ruby! It's recognising the mistakes and continuing with the effort that really counts!
After a common slip up like that, really so very common! most would give in.
But you strive on, determined not to undo all your hard work!!
well 1/2 a ciggie in 8 weeks hardly constitutes starting over so absolutely, you should carry on as a non smoker in 8th week! you probably inhaled more than that, passively, in the first hour of the party!
Yes - I definitely did inhale more than one shared ciggie in the party. We should have made it non-smoking. The advert on tv at the mo with the black smoke hanging around is exactly what it must have been like at the party.
I am considering getting some no smoking signs for my house because my mother still smokes when I am not there even though I have asked her countless times to smoke on patio - aaaarrrgggg:mad:
i'm gonna plaster them everywhere. All my friends are still smokers. I have to watch them like hawks when they come over. I am so glad you got over your slip up Ruby. Seems you and I put our guard down around the same time. Best part... both of us are still here and still not smoking. I love this forum. oH, i WILL BE HERE FOREVER.
Signs are visually invasive which I admit is better than chemically invasive!
But it sucks that you two aren't getting the respect and support you deserve in your own homes!
It's diabolical that you feel it necessary to stick up signs in your own home pah your mum in law and mates must be jealous and selfish buggers.
When I did smoke I was never comfortable smoking in houses even if the owners did! I wouldn't dream of smoking in a friends or relatives house knowing full well they've given up!
It kind of makes sense that you two have had a little slip up given all this help you have on board!
It might make my upstream swim a bit easier At least my lady doesn't smoke anymore, she quit a year ago, so I do have that support... cept I'm alone 5/7 days of the week, cause she's from a different country, and i only see her weekends. its the 5 days where the battle inside me rages on with the highest intensity. She gives me reasons to not think bout smoking.
