PET scan, Dr confused me

My results show(according to him) the. 60mm node in my armpit is abnomal, he said I would have to have a surgical biopsy, or I could wait six months and see if it's gotten worse. He said he didn't know if he agrees with the hospital report, and wouldn't tell me what it said. Lol he doesn't think the cold sweats, severe fatigue, or the other huge swollen nodes has anything to do with it! Omg I'm so confused

I would get a biopsy ASAP. I watched a groin lymph node grow for 1 yr and the only way to know what it is by cutting it out and looking under a microscope at the tissue. I regret waiting that long now on hind sight. Maybe I could have avoided having chemo had I caught this at an earlier point. You can't wish or pray these things away.

Yes, I agree! He told me the scan has glucose and mild radiation they injected me with, he said the glucose sticks to cancer cells makings them glow green . When we were going over the scan, he showed me the node. There were four places it glowed green. So that's just common sense, he just has to confirm. Tha k you, GOD bless

I agree about getting a new doctor. After I went into my first remission, I saw my doctor for follow up visits. He never did blood work, nor ordered follow up scans. His 'exam' consisted of asking me if I had any systems and feeling for swollen lymph through my heavy clothing. He finally ordered a Pet scan nearly a year later only after my primary care doctor intervened. The Pet scan confirmed my first relapse. Soon after my second treatments were completed, I changed doctors. The new guy is terrific.

Without doubt, go for the biopsy. Don't wait, clarity of condition is of great benefit.

Gail you are entitled to obtain the report the doctor disagrees with. HIPPA law supports you are entitled to your reports and records.

Hi Gail, by law your Dr. has to give you access to your medical records. I am a retired nuclear medicine technologist, and the test your writing about is a Pet scan. The radioactive compound injected is indeed a radioactive sugar compound. I am also in remission from Mediastinal LBCL for seven months now. Get the biopsy, it will give you more peace of mind than watching and waiting. Go online and educate yourself regarding the cancer you may have, there are volumes of information on the internet. And the next time your doctor won't give you results of anything impacting your health, let him know you insist on knowing. Best of luck and God bless.
