My original diagnosis was in 1994. Am now stage 3 but remission since 2005. Had chop first, no real side effects, just fatigue and hair loss but still worked. After first relapse, another round of chemo as inpatient. Was declared of his and had stem cell transplant at Med Univ of S. C. That took a while and was in Charleston about 2 months.. Affected my appetite, besides cereal I would mostly eat mashed potatoes. My sister was one of my "caregivers" and she said she would never peal a potato again!! My other food was watermelon! I was so glad when I was able to come home! In 2005 another tumnor showed and had Rituxan. No side effects this time. During the first diagnosis i also had radiation to my neck and chest since the tumor was under my jaw. That has left me with a slight shortness of breath. It has been a long haul but I am doing fine at 81. Don't give up! I didn't enjoy the bone marrows and the first one the doc missed and did it a second time. FYI, my older daughter had same thing in 1974, twenty years before me and was 9 at the time. She had same treatment at St. Jude's in Memphis. We spent a Sumner there and then had to return every 4 and 5 months. In the interim the hospital sent drugs to PEDs at Ft. Jackson and we went there every Thurs for blood test and Fri for treatment. She survived only to die at age 50 of liver cancer. After all that and 4 children still can't believe it. Every one keep the faith!
