I do take tramadol but I would prefer not to. everything you read says that I should't have any symptoms at stage 3B. Can anyone help me with what to take at night to help and does anyone else have symptoms of ckd at stage 3B

Hi there, I personally had more pain at stage 3 than I do at stage 4 which is strange in itself. Does the pain ease in different positions or is it there all the time when laying down? I whould be consulting with your specialist urgently.

I don't really have painful symptoms - just things like restless legs, water retention, etc. Have you considered that your upper back pain might be due to a muscular strain? Do you remember doing any unusual activity before it started? These strains can last for a few weeks sometimes. It it doesn't recede, you should go back to your GP/consultant.

I HAVE READ THAT CKD CAN CAUSE BONE PAIN-EITHER FROM VIT D DEFICIENCY, OR FLUID ACCUMULATING NEAR LUNGS AND HEART. IF I SIT OR STAND TOO LONG DURING THE DAY, I EXPERIENCE UPPER BACK PAIN OR HIP PAIN WHEN SLEEPING. DURING DAY, PAIN IN BONE LOWER LEGS. ONLY THING HELPS- KEEP MOVING. SOMETIMES AT 3 AM, I AM WALKING THE FLOOR TO WORK OFF PAIN. I AM ON PAIN MED FOR LOWER BACK PROBLEM- BUT SOMEHOW DOESNT HELP WITH OTHER PAIN. WALK IT OFF IF YOU CAN AND PRAY. GOD IS OUR ONLY ANSWER

Your specialist won't refer you until you are stage 4?? I don't understand that, I was with a specialist at stage 2 to stop my kidneys deteriorating quickly so they could keep an eye on me!! Where do you live? Are you in the UK? I would go to A&E with your pain and then hopefully you will see someone and get into the system! Good luck xx

Live in North Somerset and am also in stage 3b with no suggestion of seeing a specialist just have 6 monthly blood tests and annual blood pressure tests. Do not see my GP at all!

Sorry, me again, but at the end of the day, your GP (GENERAL practitioner) is not an expert on Kidneys, so therefore should send you to someone who is!!

thanks. I live in kent and gp says only at stage 4 can he send me to specialist, I do get very frustrated!

Blimey, that is very frustrating. There are lots of sites with info on eating in order to keep your kidneys healthier for longer, ie, not eating too much chocolate, drinking too much coffee, coca cola/pepsi. The less work your kidneys have to do the longer they will last, so not too much processed food. As for the pain, I am not sure. I am at stage 4, but have been under a specialist for around 20 years, but have suffered no pain other than lately with stones!!

I would be so tempted to go to A&E to get myself in the system if I was you! Give it a go and see what happens x

Hi Boycie, I understand that in my area (Somerset/Dorset) that GPs are now monitoring Kidney patients more. My son has been discharged from the specialist and has to be monitored year by the GP (he is only 17 so his function is very high 98%). However, I also would be recommending that you are refered. Has your doctor done bloods, sent you for a scan if not he/she should have. Good luck and I would demanding you be refered.

As long as you remember with all this humans aren't machines and just because one person feels something or the text books say this that or the other should happen doesn't mean it works that way! My dad, I, my aunts & uncles on dad's side all have PKD. Not one of the 9 of us has followed the same pattern of aches and pains. Even the professionals can be fooled! My nephrology prof says "I shouldn't be feeling pain [at 3B]", does that mean what I feel is wrong? Never waver from what you feel, never let anyone convince you you're not right! If you feel it, it IS right! Stick to your guns, YOU are the expert on YOUR body! Good luck.
