Oh dear!

I am so sorry to hear of your Consultant's plight. Cancer is an ugly disease; one never knows how ugly until it hits your family or one's close to you.

Be there for her and if an address is available, even just the office, send notes of encouragement as often as you can, it will be a wonderful blessing to her.

As far as yourself, whether consultants leave or retire it is often like the loss of a trusted friend..

You were lucky to have been treated by her. Who knows what the future will bring. Good lord willing, she will beat this and possibly return to seeing patients part- time.

Yes, it will be an adjustment to see another person, but have faith that the patients will be passed on to someone competent and compassionate. If not, ask for another referral.

My GP resigned her practice in October with no warning, forcing me to find a new GP as I did not like the credentials of those in that practice.

It was not easy, as my former GP was supportive and verbal about her opinion of my treatment plan after my biopsy, so her departure was a blow.

So far it appears that my new GP will be good; she is easy to talk to, listens and has followed up well on testing since our first meeting. I keep the faith that it will all work out.

Please do the same..pray and encourage your Consultant as the battle she faces is not an easy one.

To know that you were loved, respected and have support is a great gift!

Know that we are all here for you!

Hi Madonbrew,

No thanks needed for my reply; I speak from the heart.

Remember my thoughts in regard to your Consultant!

In response to your question of faith, I am not a Christian, but have a strong belief in God.

Stay positive...you will find health, direction and give someone dear and in need many needed blessings!

Something a little similar happened to me. It was my GP that died from ovarian Cancer. She was very good at chasing patients but did not have the regular checks herself. She was the best GP ever! She went home to Ireland and we the patients and staff at the practice did not get a chance to say goodbye. We feel kinda robbed! We also feel that we just didn't get a chance to say how much we all loved and appreciated her. But I am thankful and grateful for the time that I had with her. I know she is looking down and smiling right now!

Thank you all so much for your replies! It's such a strange feeling! Life has been a bit strange most of the way through for me,then I ended up with this strange autoimmune thing that nobody knew anything about. We've both walked a long journey together...its kind of different to any other type of relationship!

3caramel7 that's really how it feels! It's a funny type of relationship with the doctors isn't it...there are obviously the professional boundaries yet when you go through so much & have a good one, they become so much more than just a doctor!!
