Can kidney function deteriorate if someone has UTI and is it likely to go up once the infection is resolved.

I don't know the answer, but your question makes me wonder whether you see a kidney specialist. If you don't, you might want to think about finding one. When my primary care doctor told me I have kidney disease I located a nephrologist who sees me every few months. If I have questions I ask the doctor's assistant, who passes the question on to the doctor. Please tell us more about your condition and situation.

I have frequent UTI's in fact I have one now. If you can get treatment quickly [ antibiotics ]hopefully they should stop the infection getting to the kidney's. Kidney function can fluctuate even without a UTI, I am at stage 3 and mine fluctuates between 38/40 and the last test I had it was 44. if your kidney function has dropped with a UTI then once treated you should take a sample to the surgery for it to be tested or sent to the lab. to make sure the infection has gone, and maybe have an eGFR blood test done.

You don't say if you have CKD. or at what stage you are

Thank you Bowler, I fluctuate stage 2/3. How long have you had it for and how do you prevent eGFR from deteriorating.

I have been at stage 3 for at least 7 years, could be longer. I do have hypertension which doesn't help, but it is well controlled with meds. I try to drink plenty, I eat mostly what I want in moderation except not too much protein or fat as I have gall stones. I have never been referred to a Nephrologist as most people don't until they reach stage 4 with some exceptions or if the eGFR deteriorates quickly.

A UTI will raise your creatinine level and it will revert to the previous level when the UTI is treated. I am post-transplant and had an e-Coli infection that turned to sepsis so get any sort of infection treated asap before it can turn into something more serious.

Yes you need to get treatment straight away constant infections can & will cause a continuous decline! drink plenty of fluids especially in the heat cranberry juice is good also a glass daily as a prevention unless you are on medication like warfarin that interacts!

You need to have any infection treated straight away as previously stated or it can get worse and possibly cause permanent damage to the kidneys
