Hi Anaemic,

I was a type 2 diabetic before i was told of my Kidney Issue. As my conditioned slid down the scale, my Diabetic Condition disappeared. The Nephrologist explained that it has to do with one's Pancreas producing more insulin.

Be strong.

Hi Findlay05 - Anaemia is really common in renal disease. if it is just your GP who has diagnosed anaemia then you might want to ask for a referral to your renal team. Ask them to check your iron levels and if these are also low you could ask for an iron infusion followed by EPO which will really help. It may well be your Dr's want to see how your renal disease progresses before offering these treatments, however its always worth asking! I've had both iron infusions/EPO pre dialysis and now post transplant and they really have helped. If you are under a low clearance team then they would be the ideal people to speak to. I really hope all goes well for you xx

The kidneys produce a hormone called erythropoetin (EPO) which helps to produce red blood cells to prevent anaemia. When the kidneys are not functioning very well they don't produce the EPO very well which leads to anaemia. KatieRL has given some good advice below.

I agree with KatieRL.

I have had iron infusions twice. They aren't as bad as it sounds. Each treatment for me consisted of five trips, a week apart from each other. It's like getting a slow injection in the back of your hand...takes all of 5 minutes.
