For whoever had PD.... I was just wondering if you had local or general anaesthetic with the op. As a video on the internet showed someone have the op but AWAKE 😷

Looks pretty grim for someone who is awake

Hi Lauralou88,

When I had my PD tube proceedure I had a local which was fine. Took about half hour, towards the last 19 mins was a little uncomfortable so the surgeon gave me 5mls of pethadine which was just right.

Had to stay in overnight but went home next day.

Had to rest for 10 days, had two training sessions with a dummy in hospital then my PD nurse came to supervise for the start and I have never looked back.

Hope it all goes well for you.

Philip

I had a general anaesthetic. It was quite a few years ago- procedures might have changed since then.

My husband had his under local and came home the same day. They gave him a bit of sedative.

I had local in Spain, never saw anything as they had a screen up, never felt anything as I was full of local anesthetic . Two hours later I was on my way home. Talking to others now I am in England, it seems common to do it under general here, but that could just be one hospital trusts policies. However, as I understand it, the patient should be consulted if either is suitable.
