Hi everyone, my relative is coming from overseas to UK for holidays, and I need to book an appointment for dialysis, does anyone know how I should proceed? And also I found a website dialysis freedom which tries to help patient finding slots for dialysis however there r charges to pay, so I don't know if they r genuine.

You can phone your local renal unit and see if they have holiday spaces (you can find the name of the local renal unit online). If they don't have any space use Freedom. They are excellent and really helpful and very knowledgeable. Give them a ring and they will give you info over the phone. They can sort everything out for you and they are totally reliable. If your relative is coming from the US he or she will have to pay for each dialysis session and they are not cheap. Hopefully her or his insurance will cover it. Each unit charges a different amount - up to about £375 per session I think.

If your relatives are coming from an EEC country, they may be able to dialyse free with an EHIC, outside of that they will pay per session (as we do in the UK if we go outside europe. You didn't say in your post where they are travelling from.

Freedom is a specialist travel agent (going for over 20 years), and they are helpful. They are genuine.

Either way your relative will still need to provide blood tests, results, HIV , Hepatitis and MRSA screening and details of their dialysis prescription IF the unit they are visiting has space. The unit will be able to specify this.. These are usually needed within a 2 to 4 week space before the first dialysis session.

A lot of UK units are at full capacity right now, but you may find holiday units that have slots.

First thing to do is find the unit and give them a call:)
