Has anyone on CAPD been on a River Cruise ? I know cruise ships are not a problem but wondered about smaller boats?

Thanks

Hello

I've been on the MV Mozart on the river Danube but dialysing with on board haemodialysis and it was just fabulous. The boat itself is a real 5* treat and the whole holiday was very enjoyable and memorable, I'm sure you would have no problems with CAPD on board. Contact Lisa Parnell at Accessible Cruising and she would tell you more.

I cannot encourage you enough to go on this river cruise it is just wonderful, I'm going again later this year!

Best Regards

Colin

Hello Colin, I was interested to see you had been on this cruise. I do not wish to pry, but I made enquiries and the cost seemed horrendous for a two week break! For me and my hubby it would have cost around £5000!

Unless I have missed something does that sound about right to you? Think it was for a room with small balcony.

Hello

Yes, the river cruise is not a cheap holiday unfortunately but some of the cruises either early season or late season are cheaper. Remember you also have to pay a 'top up' fee for each dialysis session over the amount covered by the EHIC card.

Like I say, it is not a cheap holiday but it is fabulous. I have been lucky enough to do it twice and hope to do it again sometime.

Best wishes

Colin

Thank you for replying Colin. I think I will have to look again at early/late offers! Enjoy your next one!

I flew to Italy from South Africa for work.... with a bit of foresight and planning no problem and the people I visited made allowance for me. I even had Italian PD bags waiting for me at the other end. My biggest hassle is taking the PD boxes with me on holiday: the space in the car becomes seriously limited. I often do PD changes at bowling green club houses during matches. Be creative, it's fun.

Thank you Stephen.....the size and weight of the boxex was our biggest concern, as riverboats don't appear to have the same storage facilities.

Limited storage space is our biggest challenge! I have one room with 1.5% glucose bags and another with 2.3% glucose. I have to use some more concentrated bags to control my fluid loading. So far I have not mixed them up. There's no room left in the car going on holiday, yet space when we come back - some small benefits. Those boxes are heavy. It's a mission unloading at the holiday venue...... Still, it's far better than having to spend a large part of your holiday doing hemo at a renal centre.
