I'd think it depends on your transplant team, though I can't say for sure since I haven't been through your same situation. I wonder if a second opinion from another nephrologist would help, if that's possible. It may also depend on the neurological diagnosis itself and what stage you're in with that.As for not being able to afford meds, there are a lot of programs that can help. End Stage Renal Disease patients & kidney recipients qualify for Medicare & Medicare supplemental insurance, & the National Kidney Foundation probably has access to other programs as well.

In any case I wish you the best!

I would recommend you call and talk with someone at a transplant center.

I would suggest you find out in detail from your nephrologist why you cannot be recommended for the list but it’s definitely not the meds

S, I suspect that it depends on the nature of the neuro degenerative disorder and its trajectory. There is research on frailty status of would-be transplant patients that you will find on Pub Med. Some articles give a good over view of all of the facets a transplant team may consider. Info like this is good to know because you may have more positives working for you than against you. Remember that transplant teams are aiming for a record of successful transplants. There are limited organs available and they must be judicious. If your quality of life will be improved for a period of time and maybe even the rate of degeneration slowed, fight, fight, fight for the opportunity. I will keep you in prayer. Best wishes. P S. Just read your profile. There is a plethora of information about insulin resistance (prediabetic). Reach out privately if you would like me to assist you. There may be things you can do to improve your candidacy for transplant.

Depends on what your GFR is...You have to be 20 GFR or below to get on Transplant this...maybe that's what he meant...Doctors some time talk in short-hand...I would ask him to explain his statement
