Evusheld! It DOES exist.

I am sitting in the infusion chair for my hour wait time after receiving Evusheld. So far, no side effects. I hope it remains that way.

I called my transplant coordinator once/week since hearing about Evusheld. I need it because after 2 doses and a booster, it was confirmed by blood test that I created no antibodies. I have been housebound since March 2020. I have grandkids, ages 5 & 8 who have recently been fully vaccinated and have gone back to school in January after 18 mos of home school. When they were home, I didn’t worry about being around them, but now with the prevalence of Omicron, I wasn’t keen about being around the little germ-bags. So…..like I said, I was calling the team every week, and every week they put me off. Finally I emailed my transplant Nephrologist DIRECTLY through my health portal. He answered the next day and said he would get the shot for me. The very next day, the hospital called and made me an appointment to receive Evusheld today! 48 hours after emailing my doctor…..boy, that happened fast.

For all of you that want Evusheld, keep asking for it! Go directly to the doc on your team! It worked for me, and now I have at least SOME protection. I may actually be able to leave the house!

Granny’s coming, my little germ-bags! ❤️

I'll play devils advocate here and say, as a transplant patient, you still need to be very careful. As of the moment, there are no magic bullets in preventing COVID. Dr. Erica Stohs, MD, MPH, from the University of Nebraska, actually says, "Evusheld is not a magic bullet." What we have now — which we didn't have at the beginning of the pandemic — are more robust measures for preventing infection, serious illness and death. As I was eligible yesterday, I received a fourth dose (e.g. Moderna booster) today. To be sure, I want to live my life to the fullest but not at the expense of a fleating, momentary thrill.

Basketball star Joel Embiid had a breakthrough case of COVID-19 in December. Even though he was vaccinated, he said: “It hasn’t been good. That jawn hit me hard,”...“I really thought I wasn’t going to make it. It was that bad."

Best Wishes and enjoy grandkids...

Thank you, Winter Soldier. I agree with you completely! I will continue to take all the precautions such as masking, hand washing, not getting too close to others. My husband is a professional musician and since I had my transplant in2020, he had declined all music events for over a year just to keep me safe. Last Summer, after everyone got vaccinated and the virus looked like it was slowing down, he started playing events again. Even so, he still wore a mask at home and slept in another room. It’s been crazy! I’m just hoping the Evusheld will provide some protection so that I don’t have to continue these extreme measures. I know it’s not a magic bullet, but 77% protection is pretty good. I’ve also been told that, like the vaccine, Evusheld prevents serious sickness and hospitalization so that even if I do get Covid, I will probably survive. Thanks for your concern. Aren’t these crazy times we’re living in? Stay safe.

Your husband sounds like my wife. She takes so many precautions in order to keep me safe. Albeit, since she went back to work (e.g. special ed. teacher) she gets the queen bed at night :-)

Yes, indeed, these are really crazy times, particularly for the immune compromised. Congrats on the 2020 transplant 😀😀 Me too, Sept. 2020. BTW, my wife is the life saver in the family as she was part of a paired-kidney exchange that got me my kidney. Cool!

Stay safe and enjoy the grandkids!

It just shows how lucky we’ve been, to find spouses that love us so much!

Good Luck Djangosmom. Keep us update, but more importantly stay safe and take the necessary precautions even after Evusheld. My transplant center sent an email that they will be prioritizing 1) recent transplant patients 2) Patients with acute rejections first. This makes sense because both have high immunosuppressants. They will then prioritize patients without anitbodies to the vaccine.
